Maybe it's that I'm too left-brained and art in general never particularly resonated w/ me. Either way don't see any reason to feel badly about it- is it really recommended to be super sharp and ahead of the curve wrt every topic ever? I feel like it's healthy to have an area or two in which you can relate to normal folks.
I guess that's true (although music is an art form strongly mathematical in nature, but w/e). I, for one, am a huge visual art fish and am terrible with spatial relationships. I'm not much of a math-and-science person either, although oddly enough I was at a much younger age.

I never got to see them in a small venue but I saw them at a couple of festivals. They're just fantastic. And yeah, I'm constantly amazed at how they can just nail every genre they put their mind to (everyone should listen to Chocolate and Cheese to see what I mean). Fantastic musicians and songwriters. Also gotta have about the weirdest sense of humor of any musicians ever.

Still blows my mind that "It's Gonna Be a Long Night" was used, without irony, in an episode of The Shield.

I have already changed my mind, going to go with Gouge Away now. **** it though, you cant really go wrong. The Pixies. If you're a fan, definitely worth trying to track down loudQUIETloud, the documentary of their reunion tour.

I haven't listened to much Avril post-Under My Skin. Her debut and that were pretty solid. Colbie's really the GOAT.

I pretty much mailed it in in that draft, lol—about 1/3rd all-time favorites and 2/3rds whatever I was listening to a lot at the time. Ugh.

Not really, but i listened to old stuff for so long while hating on new music. Just lol worthy in retrospect. Thank god for Justin Timberlake.

Basically, if you see that clip of bill Hicks railing on non druggy post 70s music and are like "hell yeah", then that's a bummer man.

Listening now...They seem good for what they are, but I have very little interest in that type of music.

I'm going to straight lol at anyone dogging Pearl Jam. Ten might be their weakest effort. Still great though.

I used to not like the Beatles. I grew up listening to the Allman Brothers, The Who, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, etc. and just never liked the Beatles.

Then I took history of rock music in college as a joke elective, and it made me completely appreciate the work of the Beatles. I'm not really sure how you can listen to While My Guitar Gently Weeps or A Day in the Life and not enjoy it.

I disagree with this for a few reasons.

1) Has anyone itt said they "exclusively" listen to studio music?
2) Studio music is cheap. You buy it once then can listen to it 400 times. Live music typically is not cheap. At least not comparatively. And it can be very hit-or-miss.
3) There are songs that I've known for decades that I can still listen to and pick something new out. I'm really into the bass right now so now when I hear a song I try to pick out the bassline. It's not easy to do but once you do it's pretty fun. Part of what I enjoy about listening to music is picking out each separate instrument and trying to follow it. I know there are people who cannot do this and they claim to just hear a mishmash of music. If that were me yeah I'd probably get bored really fast.

Also which set of people are worse?

Those who militantly claim how much they hate Pearl Jam's Ten, or those who militantly claim how much they hate the song "Creep" by Radiohead?

I always get the feeling at some point, years ago, these parties (they may overlap!) liked the respective pieces of music, but then decided to start hating. I'm sure there are a few who hated both from the get-go but I'm pretty sure that number is <10% of claimants.
