Just FYI I didn't make a handball worldcup thread this year because they tended to get max 20 posts. In case anyone cares the tournament is currently running (in Spain). Group stage almost over.

Good post. Radiohead is the ldo woat and some of the most depressing music that I've ever heard. I seriously can't get people listening to it and deriving any type of enjoyment or happiness. It doesn't help either that anyone I've known irl who admitted to liking radio head is the really odd goth type who hates the world and life it self. It just doesn't get worse than radio head.

You'd rather discuss soda than music? I think there might be something wrong with you.

That album is surprisingly deep. Even filler stuff like "See You" is terrific. I really liked their first album too.

Then, underneath all that, a bunch of perfect indie albums (Spiritualized, Bjork, Neutral Milk Hotel, GYBE, etc.) and a layer of great-but-less-hyped albums even further below (The Magic City and Bunny Gets Paid come to mind as two I love, but I can't do justice to this category in summary.)

Then you add on that the decade saw the best work of the best two bands of the last 30 years in Nirvana and Radiohead. Transcendent, imo. Still finding way more great "new" music from the 90s than all other decades combined.
Now this man knows of what he speaks.

Oasis' best song is "Live Forever"

My favorite Pearl Jam album is No Code. I don't know if it's "objectively" better than Ten or Vs. in any sense, or if it just came to me at the right time, but it's much more diverse than either of those albums.

I ****ing hate Closing Time so much, but Semisonic's previous album, Great Divide, is pretty good. You might recognize this if you've seen 10 Things I Hate About You (best teen rom-com of the 90s imo):

My first girlfriend bought me Pearl Jam's Ten for our first Christmas.

She knew I didn't like Pearl Jam at all.

I regifted it to my dad for his birthday, not knowing he didn't like Pearl Jam either.

I mean, I guess I can see this point of view, but to me it's just saying you want instant gratification and don't care about complexity or subtlety. It's the drinking equivalent of saying "Smirnoff Ice > red wine". Or if we're talking TV, it's like saying "Law and Order > The Wire. I mean, they hardly ever actually solve crimes on The Wire! It's so BORING!"

I don't understand how you guys can exclusively listen to studio music. It's the same sequence of notes every single time you listen to a song. It is essentially a static, lifeless song that doesn't grow. Completely misses the point of music.

I couldn't find it online, but has anyone seen the British Parliament SNL sketch where Will Ferrell keeps interrupting the proceedings to declare that Oasis "is THE GREATEST BRITISH BAND SINCE THE BEATLES!"?

Once a musician records a song, that's it. The song will never change for the rest of time. It's just a lifeless sequence of notes with specific wavelengths and frequencies that can never change. Wtf is the point?

Music has so much more power as an artform that wasting it solely on prerecorded studio crap is senseless.

You just posted 3 of my favorite songs ever, PHB.

Basically everything I listen to was recorded in the 90s.

Colour and the Shape is incredible. After that though almost every Foo Fighters song sounds exactly the same to me
