gladiator isn't the worst movie i've ever seen or anything but lol at it winning best picture.

That was a really strong year, which makes it winning even more lol.

Pretty weak 5 that were up for Best Picture that year (outside of Traffic) but some good films that weren't up for the award.

Requium, Wonder Boys, Almost Famous, Cast Away, O Brother, etc.

Not sure if it was a strong year though.

But yeah, Gladiator is super overrated. Just watched it again last week actually.

Crouching Tiger. A couple of really strong movies that had like 0% shot at winning like You Can Count on Me and Yi Yi.

Also, Gladiator sucks. Ooh, being three hours long instead of two makes it "epic!" Ooh, check out the badly-CGIed Colosseum that looks like we outsourced it to Pen & Pixel! Ooh, generic, boring storyline with cliched performances! Ooh, lots of shirtlessness and adrenaline pumping for people who are nuturing secret homoerotic tendencies!

Well it was weird because it had 2-3 movies that were just as Oscar-baity as Gladiator, but much better films that didn't win.

Ridley Scott has become an expert at making mediocre films that should be fantastic.
