Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Holiday Discussion

so no more hunting or military or sport shooting? what about cops and federal agents?

if the penalty for possessing a gun is life then why not just start shooting the place up if you are caught?

how much will it cost to keep all these people in jail forever?

Crazy people are always going to do crazy things, yes.

A crazy person with a knife is going to inflict far less damage than a crazy person with an assault rifle.

Keys to making the world a safer place:

1) All children must be home schooled
2) All shopping must be done on the internet

in theory the police should be pretty well trained and wearing a vest so they should have a bit of an advantage here tactically.

not sure why we need to hunt or shoot for sport. dont know.

because that ruins your chance of living. imo jaol for life would be preferable to death. you dont see a bunch of people serving life killing themselves instead.

less than price you could put on a kids life.

And if crazy people take to running over pedestrians in cars, do we ban cars?

If they make homemade napalm and throw it at school buses, do we ban gasoline?

Sometimes people just do crazy ****. Yeah, sometimes they'll use guns, and those can be heavily damaging but millions of people own and use guns responsibly.

It's a silly overreaction to assume the only way people can do damage is with guns and/or that guns can't also provide a positive (both as a hobby like target shooting or hunting, and as protection and a deterrent).

The mental make-up of a person that would shoot up a school (or stab his wife, or hijack a plane and fly it into a building) is what we should be worried about, not the tools they use to express said bat-**** craziness.

Why is the argument against gun regulation always a slippery slope toward other things that don't exist exclusively for killing large numbers of people rapidly?

That big gas explosion here in Indy has been ruled a homicide and it's looking more and more intentional. Gas ovens are dangerous people, it's time we realize this.

Because guns don't exist for that purpose either?*

*I guess I can't really be sure of this. I've owned guns all my life and have yet to kill even one person, let alone a large number, but I didn't really read the manual that came with it very carefully, so I may just be an ineffective owner.

Right, guns are also a form of transportation, that's why you compared them to cars

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Holiday Discussion

nath, you're missing the lolpolitics thread on it. It has been mentioned by several people that if you ban or highly regulate guns, people will move towards explosive vests/IEDs to commit mass murder. Because that's how it goes down in Canada, the UK and every other similar country with stricter gun laws.

This is the first time gun nuts have mostly blamed mental illness rather then video games, Eminem, Marilyn Manson or something completely ridiculous though. So...progress!
