Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Holiday Discussion

California ranking is too low, though I do acknowledge we're terrible.

Also D.C. (not a state, bla bla) is completely outrageous, and New York drivers are terrible c'monson.

I always thought New Jersey drivers were the worst but then I moved south and Florida managed to outdo them. NJ still 2nd worst tho.

Although if you want to do the "whenever it rains in Southern California everyone dies" argument, I won't disagree. Suppose that counts against us.

EDIT: lol @ LAGtard driving, I like it

Never driven in chicago if you think Midwest drivers are cautious.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Holiday Discussion

FWIW, worst ****ing places to drive period is Myrtle Beach, SC. SC drivers are fine in the sense they go roughly the speed limit or lower and never move out of the right lane. But the fact that you have tourists from every ****ing place in the country that have no ****ing clue where they are going and still want to speed while they are rubber necking everything...

Worst place to drive, not the worst drivers. Worst drivers have to be Detroit. Dumbest set of people imaginable, luckily the roads are deserted.

you are almost certainly wrong about this - Manhattan drivers drive closer to optimal than anywhere else I've ever been, and part of it is that a huge number of the drivers are professionals. The problem is that 'optimal' appears '******edly dangerous' to non-pros.

This doesn't mean New York drivers are the best - and in fact it's kind of a nightmare driving with them if you're not on their wavelength - but they're most optimized to their surroundings.

After researching a bit, car insurance down here is so high mostly because of extremely high levels of insurance fraud. ****ing hell people.

I assumed this conversation wasn't talking about cabs and other pro drivers. I could see random citizens of Manhattan being horrible because it's such a cluster****.

Chicago isn't part of the Midwest in most ways. Their drivers are coastal-horrible, which meshes well with that demon **** of a city.

I've been to Detroit once, little weird driving down a street that's seemingly six lanes wide, yet you're the only car in sight in the middle of the day.

They avoid accidents well, but just about nothing else they do is very good. Just last trip I saw a car with its full hood stuck under a moving truck outside of grand central at 7 pm. There is no way that any parties could have been going over 15 mph given the area and the traffic. How could you ever let this happen at such a slow speed?

yea, but even the cabs I have been in in Manhattan make me carsick with how quickly they accelerate and stop. They floor it when traffic is moving and always stop quickly instead of coming to a stop gradually. They also don't obey lane laws and rarely ever signal at all. I also have found that cab drivers in Manhattan weave in and out of traffic and change lanes more than any other drivers I encounter. Finally they seem to be more willing than drivers in any other city to cut people off and disregard pedestrians while using their horn to express displeasure rather than warn people of danger.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, comes close to the insanity and stupidity of Quebec drivers. Perhaps Pudge can attest. They are the international nut low and I'd take them against any subset of American driver.

I've been to Detroit three times. Once on the way to Macau and once on the way back where I didn't leave the airport and once because it was the best way to get to Ann Arbor. In all instances it was the worst part of the trip.
