fwiw the cop was confident the crooks had been going to other apartments in our complex as well bc another tenant he talked to mentioned finding the same type of paint chips below his lock from someone likely jimmying their lock, but somehow couldn't get into their apartment.

damn man, i'm sorry to hear that. had to be one of the worst things that has ever happened to you. not to get all gunny, but spending the ~$200 for you and your significant other to get a concealed carry license will probably make you a little more confident going forward.
i'm not at all trivializing, nothing can change what has already happened. i'm just trying to put myself into the shoes of someone whose privacy has been broken.
