Am doing Chicago in spring. Pretty sure tough mudder website says running is the best prep, and then random exercises and lifts.

Basically, a mix of the following (I have bad knees and hate running also, plus I find jogging insanely boring):

Lots of stairs - helps with a lot of the hilly stuff and is essential. Lots of it is more trudging than running.

Some rowing

Prepped for my first one with 3 different 8ish mile hikes (included lots of hills) in a state park. Was good for confidence.

Lots of pushups, some mild weights.

It's a lot of fun. It's better if you have a group of friends of similar ability to team up with and go through it. Tons of people walk/trudge through big chunks of it. Lots of interval type stuff as you catch your wind then push again.

I think lengthy stair machine runs are the best and most essential prep if the course is at all hilly. 2 of the 3 I've done were at ski resorts and the climbs just murdered people. If it's flat, that's cool, but you can walk flat stuff. You can't just walk up hills, it'll kill you even going slow.

I hear what you're saying, but it's fun. Lots of comraderie, a really great, complete workout, and it's a good motivator for me, as I am otherwise difficult to motivate to exercise. It's actually been really good for me personally.

well its in DC so i cant imagine its gonna be super hilly. doing some hikes would be a good idea though

guess i will try to do a 5k maybe beforehand too and stretch out my running abilities though i cant honestly think of an exercise i enjoy less

and victor yeah in general i agree but i think it would be cool to say (as a former 300+ lb guy) i was able to do a tough mudder. and some friends are gonna do it too though they will likely smoke me in any running activity.

if you havent seen Looper yet you should go see it because it is a great movie. honestly had goosebumps at a couple moments and in general the movie played off many different emotions. just all around really good film.

key plot point of chicago is a dude pretending to be someone he isn't in the entertainment biz to get a chick to sleep with him. since it represents the 1920s or something, we can be assured that it happened way back then.

That song's for having tea parties with dolls. For skipping in the park, you need one with a steady double-time drum beat, like this.
