NASCAR is a red herring. Let's focus on the inefficiency of Anarchist watching live TV. In the five minutes he was stuck watching the NASCAR segment he could have peeled off 20-30 posts in POG.

no, you have no control over how fast another person runs. in a sport imo you have to have to offer some resistance to the competition

the only thing i think is a sport that doesnt fit this definition is golf, and everything that i think isnt a sport like gymnastics/any judged event correctly gets excluded

auto racing counts as a sport because it has an aspect of preventing your competition from doing what they want to do. regular track is not a sport since its just time.

I have not fully thought this through- but there's a whole mathy/science/strat element to NASCAR that I'd think would appeal to 2p2ers if we had more opportunity to see/understand it. Auto racing seems like it should be a much nerdier sport than it's perceived.

ya good points, ive definitely heard it irl much before that book as well. Its also kind of bogus though and doesnt take into account individual differences really - whether it be genetic or otherwise.

I had good convos about the book with heels and my psych proofs the last couple days, and we all agreed eventually that the research he does is far from complete and errorless - the selection bias you pointed out is the tip of the iceberg. Theres also a lot of post hoc tests that need to be done in order to truly conclude that his claims are truly valid.
