Yeah I live in chicago, and public transport is pretty good... but I'd rather drive 99% of the time.

Chipotle - never understood the mass appeal when there are other places that are almost perfect substitutes and in some ways better (e.g. Qdoba)

NYC - I'd rather not live out of a shoebox and go to bars where they pack people like sardines, thank you. Also really smelly. That being said there isn't a city in the US with more to do.

Five Guys - not overrated imo because many people still don't know about it. But yeah a pub burger or whatever can easily be better.

I definitely prefer taking the light rail here into Denver rather than drive. Parking isn't free downtown, gas, mileage -- also the light rail is faster on some days, and basically never slower.

Taking the subway is also much less expensive, so there's that. The subway has its ups and downs, but driving oftentimes blows, especially in cities where that's the only option.

I can and do. No roads are sufficient to accommodate population - it's basically a given that in all cities where mass transit is a joke, traffic is a daily nightmare (LA, Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta).

Again, driving is much more expensive, but even leaving that aside, it's not impossible to drive in NYC (I do it all the time). When I say ATL is sprawled, I am talking about just the city of Atlanta, as I've visited that city twice and I don't think I've ever been outside of Atlanta proper. LOL @ a cab being harder to get in NYC than ATL. Obviously this is true when it's raining or if you're in a packed bar district; taxi-type apps have made it easier to get cabs in non-NYC cities, I imagine, but if any of these things are not true, I'd much rather just hail a random cab. On a subway, you can read, you don't have to deal with the hassle of driving, you get to experience things that are outside the protective bubble of existence that you erect when you're in a car. I'm not saying the subway is superior - it isn't - but it's also cheaper and it's pretty awesome sometimes.

Wrigley might be a fun place to party and drink, but its a pretty terrible venue for actually watching a game.

There are an ungodly number of seats with poor sight lines. If you are anywhere in the terrace there is probably a post in your way.

Equally obnoxious is that all of the seating is oriented towards the center of the ballpark. This wouldn't be so bad if the main action at a baseball game took place 30 feet behind second base, but unfortunately baseball takes place primarily at home plate. This means that most of the fans are sitting awkwardly at an angle in their already not very comfortable seats.

There is a lot to love about Wrigley, but I can't say I'd be too furious if they pulled a Yankee stadium style reboot and tried to keep the overall look and feel while fixing the huge fundamental flaws the ballpark has.

how is driving more expensive? I spend $40 a month in gas and about $60 on cabs in ATL (going out on weekends to drink requires a cab in any city). I live in ATL and drive to and from work everyday, out to dinner about 4 times a week, to the store once or twice a week, to pickup lunch a couple times a week (often send someone else), to a rec kickball league weekly, and to do stuff with my gf or friends at least 4 nights a week.

so unless the subway in NYC costs about $.50 per trip there is no way it is cheaper.

Know what's cheaper? Walking.

you own a car, you pay insurance on that car, your car depreciates, your car requires repairs, and a car is clearly more expensive if you even do a second of thinking about it. also you are lucky to live in a state where the federal government paid for all the major roads so there aren't tolls, which of course incentivizes even more traffic.

EDIT: also what shark sandwich said. and biking is pretty inexpensive also.

It's $100 a month for an unlimited metro pass in NYC

Anytime you go to a bar with any sort of crowd in ATL there are literally cabs lined up begging you to get in their cab over the cab ahead or behind them. When trying to get to a bar you just call one and they come when you tell them too, many people call the same driver routinely and they will often let you squeeze an extra person or two in the cab if necessary (I have never seen a NYC cab allow this). My friends in NYC also say that its basically impossible to call one and have it come at a specific time and wait for you instead of picking someone else up. It is far more convenient when they say they will be there and then will hang around until everyone is ready.

Gas 1.30/L Cost me 60.00 a week to drive from home to work and back in my truck.
If I lived in Toronto I would be using transit and only using our vehicles on the weekends.

Mass transport is massively less expensive for many reasons, but the problem is that it's on it's own schedule and doesn't go exactly where you want to go. I don't exactly enjoy taking a half hour walk+train+wait for train+walk when the drive is 10 minutes.

I have never been there long enough to use that, but thats much more affordable than the $2.25 (I think thats what it was when I was last there) each way. in the course of your normal life is the metro enough to get around? I assume you'd need cabs for groceries, dates, etc. at least a few times a week.

ya because it rains all the time in NYC. and yeah people take cabs for groceries all the time, they go to the local COSTCO, or when that's mobbed, they go to Wal-Mart. The bills pile up.

this. I have a train stop about a third of a mile from both my apt and my office. Yet, if I was to use this to get to and from work my commute would be 25 min instead of 7.

Is it that great of a deal though considering you have to take it 44.44 times a month to break even?

A great example is my commute today. It's a 9 minute drive w/o traffic. Public transit literally picks me up at my door and takes 21 minutes... not including time waiting for the bus.

I'll take the bus though today because parking downtown is 20 bucks.

Qdoba's flavors are really mediocre. Cheese sauces are ok though.
