LotR is an okay example because that was another series with over a decade between my first read and the release of the first film, but I enjoyed watching those movies far more than I ever did reading the book.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

people think blackwater is a great episode for the same reason they think braveheart is a great movie - they're idiots

i mean in terms of television spectacle, blackwater was amazing - but my amazement wasn't 'wow, this is incredible', it was, 'wow, how could they afford this with on a tv budget, no matter how big?'

This only works if you read them as a kid. Those books are incredible. The films were great without question and the risk they took in making 3 at once paid off nicely, but books still >> movies imo

snob so hard

if people who think blackwater was a great episode are idiots, what does that make someone who thinks it was an "amazing spectacle"?

hm? it was an amazing spectacle - so for spectacle fans, i guess i can't blame them for thinking it's the GOAT. and you know what, it didn't have any boring jon snow stuff. so maybe i'll retract that; i think i just wanted to trash braveheart

I did read them as a kid. And again as a teen. And again as a college student in anticipation of the films. I mean they are good books, but ponderous or something (can't really put my finger on what I want to say). I've owned many other books of Tolkien's that flesh out the world, and have not been able to get into them at all (Silmarillion, Tales of Middle Earth, etc.). In addition to the books that discuss the writings of the LotR series (can't remember the name) and have not found them easy going either. Reading Tolkien feels like work to me. It always has.

It is my 3rd favorite fantasy series and I have only really ever gotten into three (ASoIaF/GoT and WoT). I mean I thank him for opening my eyes up to the world of fantasy, but words cannot express how little I care about the songs, the languages, and all that other **** that Tolkien spent such time developing. That's why I would rather watch movie Legolas shoot two orcs at a time with two arrows from one bow pull, than read about him singing some song to the trees in some Elvish language that is a fully working language but which I do not know.

Back to A Storm of Swords.

Love me some Braveheart, not because of the battle scenes though.

Agree. Well, I didn't read the books but s1 >>> s2 to me.

Why do you care though? It's not your money.

The only spoiler I knew in advance about the show was something I came across on the season's wiki page, that they allocated something like $1.5M additional just for that battle. If that buys a great episode, fine with me.

She looks like an African-American Big Bird. However she doesn't have much in the way of competition so you may be right.

The Lindsay Czarniak/Hannah Storm morning combo ain't bad, normally they only allow a maximum of one hot chick per crew, but milfs must not count

Triumph just doesn't feel that Braveheart can match the artistic qualities of The Maltese Falcon.

yeah i actually looked at her pics after you said it and i could see it, but she's still extremely attractive. She looks a lot better on TV as of late than she does in any of those google pics.
