Do you have experience with Israeli air screeners? If you are just talking about screening in the US, then trust me these people are much different than anything you've ever encountered. There's a reason they've had 0 incidents of terrorism or hijacking ever despite relying primarily on profiling and questioning rather than blanket invasive searches and scans which everyone receives.
Telling them exactly what they want to hear, (as you understand it), could perhaps raise more red flags than just naturally answering the questions honestly as you normally would. They are very, very good at their jobs.
