really hope the NFL actually runs with replacement refs this year, and they aren't just bluffing. their work will surely take the gameday threads to a level of eliteness not yet seen, or even conceived of. can't wait.

Doubt it changes much. Refs were already part-time workers.

Also, being part-time or full-time wouldn't change reffing much at all anyway

meh, I would think that having many many years of NFL reffing experience, like a lot of the regular refs do, has to count for something

so where are these replacement guys from, NCAA refs? high school? random dudes off the street?

and odds this dispute doesn't get settled before the season? on the face of it, seems insanely petting for the league/owners/whatever to play hardball with the refs when they're rolling in money.

agree, especially as far as GAME INTEGRITY comes into play, for one thing

these stories about rigging in soccer have scared the hell out of me...

Que?

I'm willing to yield to your experience here, but NFL refs are trained, examined, tested, and reexamined at a ridiculous rate. Making them watch film in the off season wouldn't change much imo.

NFL refs are amazing at what they do (as are most professional rule enforcers). They'll be made full time, they'll still make mistakes in a game moving near the speed of light, and we'll find another excuse ("We really need 12 refs out there, 7 just isn't cutting it...").

That's a cool story and all but there's no way you can convince me the MLS deserves its own thread

there's a thread called lolsteelers that's pretty much a staple of the front page during nfl season. there's a thread for WW, even though there is a section for WW on this forum, pretty much always on the front page. there's a minor league baseball topic. a rugby topic. SE'ers playing sports.

you're going to ***** about a league getting its own topic?

yeah i don't really see the problem. there isn't that much going on right now, so what great threads are missing on the main page? and ppl can't ever go to page 2, or 3, or whatever to find what they're looking for? i mean if threads are slipping off the main page then i guess there's nothing to talk about. i mean i was kind of surprised when i looked and there were no NFL threads on the main page, but i guess there's nothing going on there right? it is what it is.
