I'll give the Giants 2007-08 because they were playing much better at the end of the year than their record would indicate

But to win the Super Bowl this year

1)Tony Romo had to be hurt and completely ineffective in the last game of the regular season
2)Saints blow the divisional game against the 49ers with 9 seconds left and the Giants get to avoid traveling to the site of their worst loss of the season (a place even they admitted they didn't want to go back to),
3)49ers punt returner gets injured; his backup is also banged up and fumbles two key punts,
4)Patriots' most important offensive weapon is injured in the AFC CG and ineffective in the Super Bowl

that's a pretty absurd string of run good no matter how you slice it.

Oh nos, Tony Romo didn't get to show his brilliance in a big game

lest we not forget the packers dropping like 20 passes

its almost as if there's lots of variance in a single elimination football playoff

the Giants have gotten lucky but WGAF. If the Bills ever make the Super Bowl again (yeah, yeah, save it jerks) and the opposing team all got carried away by a tornado during the 3rd qtr and Bills were declared winners i'd just laugh at all of the rusted james'

the game would have been a lot closer even if he'd been able to show Romoesque mediocrity

we all know that bro

just this year, they ran insane good vs. the packers with drops/turnovers galore, the niners with kyle williams giving them the game and the pats with welkahbrah dropping the game winner.

i just feel like basically every team thats won the super bowl in the last decade has run very hot in the postseason, not that many dominant teams in recent years

The ones that were dominant got bounced early too

Giants essentially did the same thing that the Packers did the year before

the Giants have a tendency to look like bozos but they whomped the Pack, the 49ers game was closer than it should have been, and they matched up perfectly, again, against the Pats. replay last years playoffs 10 times and they win the SB at least a few times.

You mean if they played the Packers ten times last year, they may have won a few of those, right?

@natediggity - You think the Giants were 30%+ to win the Super Bowl at the start of the playoffs?

30%+ is too high so if that makes my "a few SB's" claim wrong then so be it. I just don't think the Giants ran incredibly hot or whatever during the playoffs. i guess that's my point.

they ran super hot on fumble luck, rest of the 'luck' being described is standard

and the Pats got lucky that they got to play Tebow (i mean, come on) and that Lee Evans had some lingering Buffalo Bills stank on him.
