Thanks for all the suggestions. I read Ball Four and it was a glorious read.

I read Moneyball a while back and imo baseball seems to be pretty much the same. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Right. What I meant to say was that coaches and attitude still seems to be ridiculous.

for some reason i thought it was cl.ark since he seemed to have an STL-centric posting style. but it was like clark had suffered a brain injury. this explains it.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

went to the O's/Red Sox game today, lucked out with seats in the front row in RCF. Such a tease because there were 3 HRs within 15 seats of us but all out of reach. Also a guy walked passed me immediately after last call and spilled my entire beer and and then mumbled something and I never saw him again.

That's pretty awful.

Am I crazy or is this one of the better commercial songs in the last couple years?

A little late, but Paul Shirley's Can I Keep My Jersey?: 11 Teams, 5 Countries, and 4 Years in My Life as a Basketball Vagabond is great.

He played on the Iowa State #2 seed that lost to Hampton in the first round, then had a distinguished playing career that included:

Panionios Athens (2001-02)
Yakima Sun Kings (2002-03)
Atlanta Hawks (2002-03)
Joventut Badalona (2003)
Kansas City Knights (2003-04)
Chicago Bulls (2004)
UNICS Kazan (2004)
Phoenix Suns (2005)
Beijing Aoshen Olympians (2005)
ViveMenorca (2007-08)
Unicaja Málaga (2009)

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

Yeah, that's old, but I did read that book about the minor league pitcher that Kyle recommended; it was really depressing. I think in parts the author overexaggerated even if he didn't outright fabricate, but still, the minor leagues seem pretty brutal all things considered.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

Do minor league players really give a [censored] about their team's record though? I mean, no shame in not caring unless you're Crash Davis.

I could be totally wrong about that, but in a developmental league in a sport full of one on one matchups of guys trying to prove themselves I'd think W-L would be pretty low on the priority list. Then again I watched the end of a game in the Cape Cod league a few years ago and the players were all standing in the dugout heckling the pitcher and were really into it, but I think that had more to do with the desire to talk **** than the score.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

The reason they went 55-89 is most them sucked ass at baseball tuq. No one is getting called up to the majors when they're sporting a 7 era, so in a way, it's probably way worse than a major league team with the same record, at least they're in the show

Ah, well I guess a team is the sum of its parts, but figured there could be some guys passing through who actually had potential.
