Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q are going on tour. Has anyone ever gone to a concert just for the openers?

Also, gameday threads are awesome. Don't understand why anyone would hate on them, but if they're not your thing then just stay the **** out. Problem solved. It also confirms you have no soul.

Meh. I don't like them, but ToTheInternet summed up why they can be great sometimes.

The Game Day threads are good banter. Particularly if you're watching a game on your own, on the other side of the Atlantic where no-one gives a ****, at four in the morning. Nice to not feel totally alone you know.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

There have been some amazing NFL gameday threads...

Bears-Packers NFCCG
Anything Tebow (Bears and lolsteelers games especially)
Saints-Seahawks
the Matt Dodge game
sometimes even the most mundane games, like Chargers-Chiefs last year, become great threads

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

I went to a baby shower recently. The reason all the "guys" went is our friend's (the father) family has essentially disowned him because they think this girl is "low class" (her family doesn't have a lot of money and she didn't go to college), so we go to support him instead... otherwise no one would be there for him as sadly not a single member of his family attended.

Obviously the whole thing is catering to women, so there were lots of "hm... yeah... ok... that's weird" moments, but by far the most intriguing thing was this practice of applauding for gifts seen as "essentials" for the baby.

Like when a rocker was opened, the whole room applauded. Various other gifts, luxuries such as a cushion to hold the baby in your lap on, despite probably costing the same, didn't receive applause.

The car carrier received a darn near standing ovation from most of the women present.

I feel like I just got back from a safari into a foreign land.

One funny note is that one of the men (a direct relative of the mother) present was sitting in the corner with headphones on listening to the hockey game... completely absorbed. He at one point, and this wasn't forced, jumped up and screamed "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when a goal was scored, before immediately realizing what he had just done, turning completely red and running out of the room. That was hilarious.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

We all also got candy bars which had a letter addressed to us... written by the baby herself. It thanked us for coming, said the baby was looking forward to meeting us and made some other random personal note. It also detailed the current conditions of the womb.

And I got a jar filled with brownie mix... as if I know what to do with that. I am considering eating the mix straight out of the jar as it looks rather appetizing. There were also chocolate covered fortune cookies, but they simply contained the baby's name. Adding "in bed" to the end of the fortune was not as effective as usual.

It's possible I've taken a trip to hell and back, but I survived. I got a lot of candy too.

When my friends did a baby shower they rented out a corner of Fox and Hound and we had men and women play pool and eat wings.

It ruled.

FWIW I think it's pretty cool that Karak and co are there for his friend after his family was douchin'.

Also he's a guy at a baby shower- he can't react to anything. Would you accept snark from a girl during the superbowl?

Write a reply to the letter and try to shove it between the mother's legs as she screams in fear/confusion.

Oh yeah, it's 100% and awesome move by Karak. ELIte move.

That letter still deserves at least a snide remark to the buddy on the side. Unless that **** is standard at baby showers?

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

on the topic of baby showers, when I was younger, I thought a baby shower was the first time a baby took a shower, and people stood around and watched because it was a sign of the baby growing up. I was around 7 and asked my mom if i had my baby shower yet.

If you grew up in happy valley you would have known that your baby shower took place during the 12th year of life

Haha... we made plenty of snide comments among ourselves, but honestly it was a really nice event. They went out of their way to make us all feel welcome. The mother's family is really, really nice and they are much more laid back than the stuck-up family the father comes from. We all felt comfortable being our usual selves there. It's good because he definitely fits in well with them personality wise. What his parents are doing is disgusting, but not surprising.

This guy was the guy who broke all the rules growing up, lived a daredevil childhood and got away scot free every single time. Hell, he got caught sometimes, but never in trouble. When the girl's mother asked us if we had any stories about him, we laughed for about 26 minutes straight. He's matured and grown up a ton in the last 5 years (obv), but there's still some of that sitting there under the surface.

I mean it's just something we'd all do for each other. The guy would drive 30 hours across the country and bury a body if one of us needed it.

In fact, when the grandmother-to-be asked me to tell her one thing about him, I just stared at her with a plain face and said, "Well, he's incredibly loyal. If I ever asked him to kill a guy, he'd probably just do it without asking." And we all laughed... but there was a little seriousness there, haha.

Oh, of course. And the men from the mother's side of the family appreciated it. I acted as male-comedic-commentator for much of the shower. That goes without saying. Lots of photos of our friend holding up pink baby clothes and pictures of hearts were uploaded to facebook on-the-fly with custom captions we created as a group.

I really feel bad for the guy. He was so hurt his parents didn't come. His mother declined via e-mail. His sister said she'd come and then just stood him up... simply didn't show up. I know my parents and the parents of our other friends were on the verge of saying something to them a while ago. They actually went out of their way to bring up the baby at a social event, and the grandmother-to-be from his side of the family wouldn't even acknowledge his existence. He really didn't do anything wrong except choose to marry a blue collar girl with tattoos* who didn't go to college. She's a real sweetheart, though. They'll be fine.
