Gus Johnson is apparently calling MLS games for San Jose.

Anyway, soccer popularity in this country is not directly tied to MLS, however I agree with ya basically Clark/F60.

Not really, hockey and baseball have a ton more variance.

Man, the Jordan effect was pretty crazy. Would have guessed baseball was a little lower.

Of course, CL/EPL/Int Tournaments have a bigger pull on american soccer fans than MLS I'd think. But for soccer to break into the huge US sports it would need a big domestic league.

I realize some of it is put on for the cameras - but there's like no chance Ashley isn't one of the biggest ****s in the entire Detroit area. That says quite a lot.

Or for a number of real star Americans playing in EPL/La Liga/Serie A/Budesliga - certainly better on that front then we have been for a while, but we need "our guy" starring for United or a Milan side or something like that

Having games on TV helps too. NHL seeing a ratings boost by a good % this year by actually having the games viewable.

Your few remaining loyal anti-soccer friends are being seduced by talk of CITY VS UTD and BARCA VS REAL. Now no one wants to discuss NASCAR with you, but at least you haven't broken, oh no, you will remain anti-soccer till the end. Finally it happens, you reach your breaking point. You catch your best friend discussing the finer points of zonal vs man to man marking on corners. Desperately, you beg him to watch the hot dog eating contest with you later over a few bud lights but he politely declines, and turns away to continue his soccer conversation and his pint of ale. Dejected, you run home in tears. You toss yourself off so as to speed up the onset of sleep, a dream world in which soccer is still a joke, and you are still a man.

FYP

That's definitely a more accurate portrayal of the show from what I've seen. Best minstrel show on television today

I've been really happy with my Asus laptops-- they come at a pretty good price and you can get a no-questions-asked warranty that is pretty awesome and essential if you are as brutal on machinery as I am.

By red-blooded did you mean red-necked?

I'm merely saying that it's as cool, if not cooler, to hate on NASCAR as it is to hate on soccer in most "not the south" areas.

No real chance of that happening. Love Deuce but he'd do extremely well to be a squad player at a really big club.

Wow, looked at the Daytona tv ratings, 36.5 million viewers.

Edit: And last night's race had 7 million viewers. Nascar is clearly money.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Forum Discussion

well nascar is not just popular among rednecks. i'm saying it seems odd that it would become/be american/patriotic to hate nascar when its roots and culture are very "american." on the other hand hating on the south has always been a pastime for the rest of america. just a little ironic

NASCAR would be a lot cooler if the races still involved running moonshine across state lines.

NASCAR is ****ing aids, just awful. The only excuse to watch it is drinking all Sunday, in which case you should be watching the NFL.
