Your few remaining loyal anti-soccer friends are being seduced by talk of CITY VS UTD and BARCA VS REAL. Now no one wants to discuss NASCAR with you, but at least you haven't broken, oh no, you will remain anti-soccer till the end. Finally it happens, you reach your breaking point. You catch your best friend discussing the finer points of zonal vs man to man marking on corners. Desperately, you beg him to watch the hot dog eating contest with you later over a few bud lights but he politely declines, and turns away to continue his soccer conversation and his pint of ale. Dejected, you run home in tears. You toss yourself off so as to speed up the onset of sleep, a dream world in which soccer is still a joke, and you are still a man.
USA has the NFL and NCAAF.
Soccer cannot bust through that.

Yup, but passing lolhockey and the NBA is definitely possible. Baseball is also more boring than soccer.

I think soccer is awful, but it is way better than lolbaseball. It could be #3 pretty easily, and demographic shifts are in their favor.

I'm sure I would enjoy the high level Euro soccer leagues if I paid attention but there are only so many hours in a day, I already follow too many sports closely as is

It shouldn't be too difficult for soccer to pass in popularity a league that was on strike and the majority of Americans didn't even notice or care about.

Oh am I? I thought soccer was the 3rd most popular sport in the US. Is that not the case?

edit: If you haven't already, do this. The default inability to tab to select on web browsers is probably the most annoying mac thing.

The issue is that Americans generally don't enjoy minor league teams. And the perception will always be the MLS is a minor league since everyone knows about (at the very least) the Premier League. It's generations from the US generating enough internal talent to come anywhere near what's overseas, and that's a huge huge impediment to gaining broader support.

lol

Soccer has a good niche, the niche slowly gets bigger, but as Clark said it won't ever truly come close to basketball or baseball unless it has one of the better domestic leagues in the world, which it won't. Not anytime soon at least.

Soccer just isn't fun to watch. I love playin soccer, great sport.

But **** they only score like 3 times a game and they take forever. They need to get some comedians and pornstars commentating on the game and then I'll watch. Can't stand the Euro trash announcers.

Euro trash announcers make everything better. We're mere months away from the GOAT coming out of retirement too!

My Vaio is going on six years and the only problem I have ever had with it was the power plug in needing fixing fwiw.

Why do people think you cannot like American sports and soccer? This has always baffled me. It's one or the other, can't be both.

Again,

Americans are a weird bunch at times.

Hating soccer became associated with "being American" somehow. But in much of the country, so did hating NASCAR.
