Horse broke down on the track and they couldn't move it in time, they had another lap to do, so some of the experienced jockeys pulled the horses up. They then decided to run it again after all the racing was done, this resulted in 2 more horses breaking down, just a really bad decision and kinda put a downer on the whole day.

Yeah, not that it should even matter but it was one of the lesser races on the card. $1m prize fund and a Grade 3.

Wasn't the jockeys that chose to pull up was a track decision.

It's not unheard of for horses to race twice. Plus they had only run the early stages of a very long race, which was done at a very slow pace. Wasn't at all like running it twice. Was like 4-5 hours later when they finally ran.

They asked all the owners what they wanted to do and they unanimously votes run it again. They were all given the option of getting their fees and expenses refunded but all owners declined and decided to race.

None of this is to say that the choices were right. Just reporting how things happened.

horses used to run much longer routes across the plains to deliver mail. dont see the problem with running them again.

Theres an official car that drives alongside the horses just on the other side of the rail. The order to pull up came from there. The jockeys couldn't even see the front stretch from where they were at. The turf track is 12f and there was a massive infield TV in between.

I was shocked. I've always seen horses just go around the downed horse in situations like this in the past. Couldn't believe they pulled up.

All modern thoroughbreds come from one of three horses that were originally from Arabia IIRC.
