Can't tell if you are laughing at the use of fourth or the amount binged.

Twenty sack in 3 weeks? That does not seem like much I guess. Probably a few joints or a half dozen pipe bowls give or take.

I don't know the first thing about horses, but doing multiple takes of racing scenes in one day with the same horses seems like a bad idea.

listen, i know nothing about horses but it seems the staff are reasonable people and there is oversight by trained and conscientious professionals so the deaths were bad luck.

The gist is that the horses ran for a short distance for each take, were given ample rest between takes, and didn't do a million takes each day.

Luck was not doing great ratings-wise. I think it's cynical but fair to argue that if it was doing True Blood or GoT numbers, it might not have been cancelled.

Yea, I'd like to see another Milch show on HBO, but it feels like his shows are often going to be on the verge of getting canceled due to accessibility issues with the average viewer. Still sad about Luck though.

HBO basically always gives a show two seasons. Look at Treme/Bored to Death/Enlightened/etc. If it was GoT/True Blood hit, they might have tried to do something different, but the third death definitely cost at least a 2nd season and if it did well at the Emmys could have cost us a third or fourth season.

Let's get something straight - the show was not canceled. It was the creators' decision to end the show. How much they were strong-armed by HBO into that decision isn't clear, but they've given interviews and it doesn't sound like that was the case.

Yeah- there's absolutely no fuel to the "HBO used this as an excuse to shut it down because of low ratings" thing. Most notably because ratings don't mean nearly as much to HBO as other networks.

FWIW I've been on sets with horses before and in every experience they have been treated extremely, extremely well. There have been days where every shot was horse centric and they actually sent everyone home about 6-7 hours early because the horses were acting skittish around some heavy machinery, and sending people home early almost never happens except on account of weather. Wouldn't be surprised if there are some very, very strict union guidelines on how to deal with them.

Yeah, I mean, we shot some commercials a few months ago with cats where they just got dressed up in dumb outfits and even that had outside independent anti-animal cruelty people. I'm sure that there was plenty of care taken with horses undertaking racing shots.
