love it, too often reasonably interesting stuff gets knocked off the front page bc it's filled with the team threads.

Thanks Clark. Only downside is the need to visit two forums for baseball. One for teams and one for general. Worth a try though.

Also, great to see the consultation with users. Thx

The former is awful. The latter seems to be unnecessary, but I don't have an opinion either way.
Obviously.

Franchise has helped me keep my sanity lately. Thanks for some well timed sarcasm/humor.

Reading comprehension is at an all time low in this forum - I blame LnBK who seemingly can't understand the gist of a single post he's responding to.

Just doing my part during these dark times. Kinda like Geena Davis in A League of their Own.

Geena Davis on her parents' farm, or Geena Davis on the Rockford Peaches?

I say give this subforum idea a try...might as well use the useless Baseball season to experiment this idea out before the real sporting seasons start.

I think it's a bad idea. So, no

Not a fan really. I like to pop in on the big team threads when something bad happens to see the meltdown. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one who does this. I think that stops happening if those go somewhere else. We've been arguing for keeping the community whole, and this defeats that purpose, imo.

I was pretty sure it was the latter, but wanted to be sure before responding. Apparently, asking for confirmation on something is frowned upon here in SE. Would it have been better if I had responded and been wrong?

Can't win on forums like these.

I like this idea a lot. I think that SE is really hard for new users when they see every thread on the front page is 20 pages long.

If you did do a sub forum- maybe even consider weekly or monthly threadzillas?

Dibs,

We'll see how it goes. Our hope is that it will free up more room for more granular (but quality) discussion threads on the main page.

All,

We're proceeding with this given generally positive feedback. If it turns out to be a detriment to overall traffic or things seem stagnant/fragmented, we have the ability to reverse course.

We are also implementing a Fantasy Sports sub-forum.

It seems like the right time for both is right now, just before NFL season starts. Which will give everyone a chance to get acclimated, and right before a huge number of new team threads and fantasy threads start really popping up.

oh yes, fantasy sports moved as well. Thats great.

Also, gmafb to those that say clicking one more time makes it harder to find a team thread.

Our hope is that, other than the huge threads (Yankees, Cubs, etc) it actually makes it *easier* to find team-specific threads since they will mostly be on the front page (or two at the most). By comparison, you can sometimes go back 3-6 pages and easily miss the thread on the main page.

Will the same rules apply to the subforum?

yeah I agree, and I think the front page will mostly just reflect the current seasons so it should be super easy to find. This should also make content(especially new threads) easier to spot on the front page as well.

Yes. No name calling, etc. Same group of mods (for now at least).

Will go with a standard naming convention in the team thread forum, e.g. City Name, Team Name, Year, Lame Comment. Same rule with no "officials" or "******"'s in the title.

We can discuss how best to organize things in Fantasy Sports once its up and running. Obviously there will be more room. How to deal with all the rate-my-team threads that will be forthcoming, etc. For now, we'll let the posters try and sort it out themselves and see how it goes.

I think this should be changed just for the subforums. Like when Stern moved to satelite...this is a huge move, and shojuld be treated so, with new privelages.

At a glance, the people who post in season threads who are against it also appear to be those whose threads are the busiest and rarely drift off the front page. I hate change as much as anyone but I think this is worth a shot.

Let's put this into context given the current (10:20 PT) first three pages:

There are 20 threads specific to teams, many of which are on page two. These would all be on page one of the subforum.

There are two fantasy-related threads on the first page. Presumably this would expand greatly and not annoy people who don't play.

All the other threads, some unique and topical ones such as all-star discussion, the no hitter in progress thread, and others that are currently buried under the weight of the team threads, are more likely to catch people's attention. Speaking of clicks, I rarely venture past page one unless I am looking for something specific.

Also, division/league threads will stick around for general discussion. This may attract a more casual fan, which allows the more hard-core one to venture to their team's thread in the subforum. This assumes people play by the rules and do that.

All in all, it's worth a test drive.
