Is anyone actually watching hockey right now? I'm pretty sure that I saw that the MLB on Fox nearly matched the NHL PLAYOFF HOCKEY tv ratings. I think I also saw Nascar was doubling on the NHL ratings as well.

Hockey's lack of popularity is strange. There is scoring, a fast pace and legal fighting. You'd think america would embrace it more.

there's a slow pace - 2 intermissions are brutal for tv, that's 36 minutes of dead time they have to fill. i'm convinced if hockey only had one intermission it would be 50% more popular on TV.

also difficult + expensive to play, whereas this is not the case for the other 3 major team sports.

Id suggest that next time any of you goes shopping that you try a size or two smaller than normal and then poll a woman or two regarding her opinion on the fit.
Men should pretty much always shop for clothes with a female friend.

Polos actually should be fitting. Or as my fiancee says, "skinhead chic".

As much as I hate to say it, I think a lot of hockey's downfall has to do with the lack of coverage it gets from ESPN. Once ESPN dropped hockey, they stopped covering it on Sportscenter or their website in a meaningful way. Unfortunately, this is where the majority of the American public gets their sports information and updates. They have failed to craft meaningful stars in the eyes of the public (now especially with Crosby's injury problems and Ovechkin's WIL). In the mid 90s, everybody knew the 2nd tier stars in addition to the top guys. So in addition to Gretzky and Messier, most people, even casual fans, knew Yzerman, Lindros, Hull, Shanahan, Modano, Brodeur, Roy, etc.

Now hockey's role has been marginalized, and people treat it as such on the mothership. If they ever bring up hockey on PTI or ATH, I guarantee it will take less than 15 seconds for some variant of "Well, you know how it is in hockey, one hot goaltender is all it takes", basically making the contributions of every player seem so unimportant.

Unfortunately, hockey is now a niche sport on a niche network and that's how it will be for the forseeable future.

Never tried garlic pepper bacon. Will look into it.

This was two slices I cut in half. Was putting it in a breakfast sandwich.
For a plated breakfast, I usually have 3-4 full slices.

Playoff hockey is amazing, although it makes me way more nervous than any other sport to watch if I actually have a rooting interest (which I may not after tonight).

Maybe if I became more familiar with the nuances I would become less nervous by realizing that just because the opponent has the puck in the defensive zone doesn't mean it's a realistic scoring opportunity.

Hockey being unpopular is almost entirely due to what you say.

They shoulda done whatever they could to keep it on ESPN after the lockout.

VS is a joke, and no one cares anymore.

Ratings for hockey are going up, ESPN always treated hockey like a niche sport, better off without it.

That being said, I bought a 85% dark bar for a road trip to Tuskegee with the dog today, and believe it the first non-protein powder non-ice cream chocolate I've had since Mardi Gras. Also grabbed a Dad's root beer and a Bundaberg.
Yeah I forgot, I love a black/white latte with french-pressed milk. I really don't know the nuances of coffee, espresso, french presses, steaming, but that's really good.

Agree with Zimmer. Hockey was so good in the '90s. Especially the last half of the decade. Just about every playoff game was on ESPN in primetime and you had the elite Gary Thorne and ... can't remember the other guy's name covering it. The sport was so hot back then especially with all the Avalanche/Wings drama.

Then Gary Bettman did that thing he does where he ****s over the best interest of the NHL and somehow got ESPN to drop them entirely. Unbelievable.
