i tried to fight that battle a year or two ago, didn't get much support or help in that regard. it seemed like a bunch of the better posters took their ball to a blog somewhere else, oh well.

maybe a separate gameday thread would help, but it doesn't seem like there's much discussion otherwise really. barring that, expecting high content stuff from 7pm-midnight EST is probably a mistake. i think in the past there used to be better stuff being posted before and after games, rarely during though. usually just gets lost in the mix.

idk, maybe we can start from scratch next year or something then with a crackdown on pointless no-content posts?

it's not hard. you just ban or sufficiently warn the idiots. this was lacking in the MLB thread for years and in the latter half of 2012 that became fixed, and most of the higher-content posters have returned

no gehrig but he's still alive. i play TF2 with him sometimes

i only agreed to do it because i was confirmed mad about how the 2012 mlb thread turned out and even then it took a good bit of badgering from tuq.

still it's not like modding nvg or pog or something

It's like you've never been in an NFL gameday thread before. I'm guessing the MLB thread doesn't have a gameday thread, so all the low content posts are filtered into that thread for the NBA/NFL, but it looks like the MLB/NHL suck because the low content posts are forced into the main thread.

the main difference is that in nfl gameday threads, most of the time everyone is pretty much only watching one game (4pm sunday threads) or there is only one game on for everyone to talk about.

in mlb, nhl and nba there are tons of games going on at once all the time. so when someone posts "loooooool" 2/3rds of the thread has no ****ing idea what its referring to which makes it worthless spam.

Lots of NFL discussion going on about several games at once.

meh in the 1 pm game thread there is (i edited). but those threads mainly exist so people can spam "cutlahhhhhh!" over and over again without disrupting the weekly thread discussion anyway.

Modding discussion somehow worse than god baiting. Ban people that are derailing, read around posts that you don't agree with. EZ game.

The same thing happens in NFL gameday threads all the time. People across the country are watching different games or watching Red Zone. Mostly people don't care since it's the gameday thread and that's what it's for. To the extent that people care, they should get over it. Posting "looool" takes about .25 seconds to skip over.

If it's a huge deal in MLB threads then make a weekly gameday thread. Lock it after it's done if necessary.

yeah NFL gameday threads are not really comparable with basically anything else that goes on here imo

i consider myself an expert gameday poster. using a well timed "loooooooool" is not easy. probably like 3500 posts of mine have been made up through the gameday threads. i come with the heavy hitting stuff.
