To me, to a guy like Marlo Stanfield, hell is a business meeting with a bunch of developers. For Stringer, it was all he wanted.

I definitely did not take Zee's view that Marlo won in the end because he got it all.

He was clearly tortured, hated the business side.. just wanted to wear the crown in the streets.

Marlo was obviously a loser in the end. Recall his speech about wanting to wear the crown. He got that taken from him and reputation>>>>>>money in his eyes.

Ya, I mean I think that's pretty clear. Crown speech, name is name, etc.

Clark, totally agree with your last sentence. I'm super optimistic and also jealous. I'm just not super optimistic for say, world peace and agnosticism. It's partly the old thing about what would happen if earth were attacked by aliens tomorrow? I have no problem believing that the whole world could band together, and once Ender had vanquished the alien horde we would all feel good about it, together we would plunder their unobtanium and we would fist bump each other as we were fisting the surviving green strumpets in the most politically correct gangbang ever. Man it would be great. But then four months later some ****ing Packers fan would recline his airline seat too hard and thumbs would be bitten and lawnmowers would start flying and even as William Wallace was yelling Freedom we would be back at the status quo, which is discord unlimited. I obviously wish it was the other way. I'm optimistic that we can minimize all our human condition bs through tech and wisdom, but humans are the biggest badasses that earth ever made and when push comes to submarine, tribalism and intolerance and violence aren't the kinds of things that people seem to be equipped to outsmart. Granted we might be able to unspool them from our DNA but then that's a different conversation.

not sure who was the best but ziggy was the worst

that's way too shallow a read of marlo based on MY NAME IS MY NAME, think of all the things he did to evade the police and to rise to wear the crown. he learn lessons from the fall of avon, earned the fallow trust of prop joe, he brokered with the greeks when the others were drowned in petty beef - marlo is no mere corner hopper bros

marlo hasn't dealt with the street corner level for a long time, hence the whole premise of the MY NAME IS MY NAME scene, that he's actually ignorant of omar calling him out on the streets. he's just like corporations re their brands.

he's just getting one last taste imo

I've actually never heard that take, and interesting Simon says it is intentionally ambiguous. But I thought it was pretty clearly his release from the torture of the business life. I don't think he is leaving the game out on top getting one last bite.

The "really interesting" former-cop "exposing" corruption in the LAPD was bound to get support on this forum for killing people with zero moral responsibility for that corruption.

Yeah, I agree he was comic relief. And I tend to get annoyed at people who analyze things to death rather than simply enjoy them for their entertainment value (the Girls thread in OOTV is a very recent example).

But I did read somewhere - may have been Sepinwall - that the Mouzone character is such a fish out of water on a show that was filled with characters who could conceivably exist IRL that he stuck out like a sore thumb and harmed the overall product as a result. Had he simply existed for laughs that would be one thing, but they interjected him into serious plots and he had a key role in one of the turning points of the series.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed having him on the show - the intro to s2e11 is my favorite of the series, and that whole episode is my favorite as well - but it was kind of a guilty pleasure.

haha, pretty amazing how they somehow reconcile being this baller couple who has it all figured out with arguing various topics to death on the internet with randoms and shills. Apparently they don't realize it's not a good look.

i can see why ppl would be bothered by ziggy and consider him poorly constructed, contrived and annoying. i just thought he was pretty damn funny.

dunno why i dont like mouzone. just rubbed me the wrong way. like he was some sort of unrealistic super hero type. seemed out of place on the show.

ziggy, otoh, some dumb semi-coddled wannabe gangsta seemed perfect.

In the most ridiculous news story of the day, some Russian nutbag blames the gays for the ban on Olympic wrestling

Quote:
"If they expel wrestling now, that means that gays will soon run the whole world," coach Vladimir Uruimagov said, calling the decision "a blow to masculine origins."

He added: "It turns out this committee is headed by representative of these minorities," clarifying that he meant sexual minorities.

"It is necessary for millions around the world who understand that this is a man’s sport and who understand the need to continue the human race to go out and explain their position to the Olympic Committee," he said. "We should prove and explain that in any other case there is no future."

I agree that Mouzone was out of place, he was the only part of the show that was sort of cliche imo. The badass overly calm hitman type who is super eccentric and has an over the top polished and refined exterior but is a brutal killer is the kind of thing they do in action movies. I also thought his character was kind of inconsistent.

ziggy is perfect, he is incredibly well fleshed out and acted as the wannabe hiding his desperate need for respect behind being a joker

here's the thing, omar is even less realistic as his character progressed

simon had him surviving like a 5 storey fall like it aint no thang, straight out of a comic book.

Or not.

Quote:
3. Omar's Spiderman moment - that some regarded as a sharkjumping turn in the series - was inspired by real and higher events (two floors higher actually).
"[Donnie Andrews, who inspired the character Omar jumped from the] the Murphy Homes. He also jumped off the rail bridge at Poplar Grove, onto the rail bed. That was probably about three stories (the jump in the show was two). And he hurt his ankle. It's just true. Those jumps, by an athletic person, can actually be made and are made, routinely. By a non-athletic person? If I made it, I'd be all over the pavement and they'd pick me up with a spoon," Simon said.

Exactly why zeestein knows more. I mean Marlo is responsible for YOU WANT IT TO BE ONE WAY being posted like 1000 times here and has moar swag than anyone, obviously he rides off into the sunset like the badass he is, and isn't going to get fleeced by those tricky businessman the way Stringer did. He's just too smart for that, and there's nothing in the show to suggest that the cycle is going to repeat itself or anything, or that he's lost the one thing he really cared about.
