You are lucky to have not spent much time among the more evangelical types then.

I don't "get mad" at religious people but I also don't have to interact with people who wear their religion on their sleeve prominently anymore. I did have a friend in college who constantly tried to get me to come to Mass with him and was really condescending about it even though I had been raised in the faith and come to my own conclusions about it. The fact that he wasn't in turn willing to join me in my spiritual practice pretty much sealed the deal as to why I don't deal with people like him anymore. (Not to mention my own upbringing which is a whole other story.)

I do wish the charitable wing of the Catholic Church would separate from the pedophile wing.

atheists as a group deserve more disapprobation b/c they've grown complacent due to the lack of intelligent critiques

This goes to my point.

Anarchist, there's a reverse heep game somewhere. Find it.

I went to a Lutheran school through 8th grade, so I've spent plenty of time around that type of people. Maybe I was lucky to not be around many real nut jobs, but I feel extremely blessed to grow up in the environment that I did. It has little to nothing to do with the beliefs of the religious people I was around growing up. That's why I think most of these religion discussions are AIDS, because way too many generalizations get thrown around. Religious people are obviously guilty of the same thing, and I have no problem calling them out in the same way. People believe different things for different reasons, and I think it's ridiculous to ridicule people for what they believe outside of the extremists. I'm not accusing you of that, but that's often what these discussions devolve into.

Either atheism is acceptance of the fact there's no God -- a fact based on reason due to a lack of empirical evidence proving there is a God -- or it's a belief because it lacks empirical evidence to prove such a negative.

If the latter, you're calling yourself an empiricist, and therefore an atheist.

I can see this being true on an individual level (especially since, in many cases, the outspoken atheist is someone like a college kid who has just come to this conclusion for the first time and treats it as a earth-shattering idea no one has come up with before). But anarchist is right-- there isn't a large atheist institution coming up with laws and policies to **** over large numbers of people based on arbitrary rules.

As usual, the problem is with institutions, not individuals. Just like in The Wire.

He has his stretches where he's not that bad imo, but lately he's gone full blown RAIDS. Prob would be best for him to post a little bit less and maybe go outside and get some fresh air and interact with people.

Perhaps that's just because you know a higher % of anti-religion people?

Personally I find anybody outspoken about religion to be annoying like ****. As far as I'm concerned people can believe whatever they want so long as they STFU about it toward people who believe something else.

What if you were non-religious and gay? I mean, I understand it's a take based on personal experience, but it seems so trivial/based on obvious selection bias. The clear civil rights angle of "anti-religion" should imo give proponents a fair degree of latitude.
