It certainly feels that way, but Tolkien is so descriptive throughout his novels that Jackson will never be short on material to include. None of the sequences felt like a huge stretch for me. Admittedly, I loved the LOTR novels growing up so I wasn't really bothered by the length or the content.

Probably could've done it in two movies, definitely enough for more than one, however. Not an incredible movie but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

The LOTR could have been far more in depth if they wanted.

Agree that there is certainly enough content for three parts to the Hobbit. But it may not be interesting enough to casual observers.

I fell asleep for the 2nd 45 minutes of the hobbit since there was a bar at the movie theater and they took AMC giftcards but overall it seemed decent enough. Nice visuals and whatnot, I enjoyed it when I was awake. I was a pretty huge fan of LOTR series though

Managed to see ZDT a few weeks ago. I really liked it. I can see the whole cliche thing, but since all that stuff did happen, not sure what they're supposed to do.

Finally saw Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within on Netflix yesterday. I highly recommend it if you can do subtitles.

Disclaimer: I didn't see The Hobbit.

I don't think it's a money grab, although I'm sure the studio wasn't opposed - I just imagine that Jackson + company thought the success of the LotR trilogy extended versions on DVD meant that there was a huge audience for completeness. I don't know how well the Hobbit did financially, probably pretty well, but I wonder how movie #2 will do.

Yea I watched that and it is def a good action flick

saw "John Dies at the End" last night and found it pretty entertaining. I don't think it has much mass appeal but a solid trippy stoner movie

I haven't seen The Hobbit either but as I understand it a bunch of stuff was added to the movies that wasn't in the books so there's definitely some padding / money grab concerns there.

Haven't seen the Hobbit yet, but I always thought it was more of a "vision" thing with Jackson re: three films. That always goes two ways with directors: either really good or really bad.

Yeah, but I think it's wrong to look at it as just "The Hobbit". I saw this somewhere else but think of it as LOTR Episodes 1-3. He's trying to fill in more backstory (much of which I think is good to add) and basically extend things into one long 6-movie series.

What I've been told is that they added stuff in that was in other books written by Tolkien, as in they add side plots that aren't in The Hobbit but are in other related books.

That's correct - and they are things that in general directly relate to LOTR.

The post just after that where someone lit him up with all his own low signal posts was also epic.

Gotta hand it to BO, one of the best trolls on the site. So good, he's somehow convinced Tuq he's not a troll - amazing GOATish stuff.

It's pretty incredible.

Convincing tuq that myself and PHB are the reasons that the golf forum is always so contentious is probably his greatest achievement.

Most interesting responses so far: They're re-evaluating low blocks, re-evaluating celebrations, Saints still lose 2013 2nd round draft pick

He's definitely a troll and I've acknowledged as such plenty of times, not sure where you get that. I do respect his knowledge of the game though, which he sometimes imparts when not doing battle with people he should just put on ignore for everyone's sake.
