I used to hate on the Beatles and would routinely say they are overrated. Then I heard Tomorrow Never Knows and I realized I didn't know what the **** I was talking about.

Michael Jackon
REM
U2
Erik B and Rakim
Talking Heads
Beastie Boys
Police
Smiths
Pixies
Sonic Youth
Joy Division/New Order
tail end of Kraftwerk
Born in the USA era Springsteen

yeah 80s is easily better than 00s imo

Metallica
Talking heads
Guns N Roses (not a big fan tho)
ACDC
Van Halen
Dire Straights
Faith No More
Stevie Ray vaughn
Paul Simon
etc.

I can't even really think of a good band that started in the 00s

Hi.

I'd like to recommend an underrated band called Explosions in the Sky.

I'm not entirely sure how to describe their music, but it's very relaxing and different. I used to grind tables to it on repeat all the time.

Here's 2 of their more popular songs.

I'd encourage you to listen to at least one the whole way through before judging it!

I wouldn't call them underrated, though; they get the high praise they deserve.

I like GBV, I just think Robert Pollard is a very good songwriter at his best, but I'm with you on Pavement. Maybe I need to give Slanted and Enchanted & Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain another shot, but they always just kinda bored me. I mean, they're not bad, but I never found them exciting either, or worthy of the overarching praise they receiver. (I mean, Pitchfork picked "Gold Soundz" as the #1 song of the 90s. Come the **** on.)

I like Spiritualized (and Spacemen 3), but I'm a sucker for that big, overproduced, take-you-on-a-magic-carpet-ride sound.

The Cure, Husker Du, Duran Duran (not kidding, possibly the best singles act of the 80s), Tom Waits, INXS (another great singles band), and, of course, these guys:

, love Explosions in the Sky. Saw them live like a year ago, and it was fantastic. Kind of shorter in length compared to most live shows but they just go all out.

The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is an album I can pretty much never get sick of.

I don't think there's been a band that necessarily has that kind of super-sustained longevity that we've seen from earlier acts, but there have been a ton of good bands in the 00s. And of course that's not including solo artists.
