90s.. really not that good. grunge era stuff just doesn't hold up for me. I still listen to some STP cuz they got some boss songs (Purple is a sick album). Nirvana dont' really to anymore. Never liked pearl jam much but their hits are fine (still love daughter, alive, etc). don't dig alice and chains anymore. Hated soundgarden.

Some of the college rock/alternative stuff is still good, but it's just so rare that i'd ever listen to it these days. I could just be listening to new music instead.

Since this thread has gone to hell with music talk, I'm going to post some Nada Surf:

Muse were really good then went full ****** last 2 albums/5 years or so. They basically did a reverse Weezer where they've started taking themselves waaaay too seriously.

Also, new Strokes single any day now.
Strokes/White Stripes also bands I don't like.

After seeing all that it can't be that hard to see not liking Radiohead while really liking a lot of other bands from "rock/alternative" genre.

As others have said, so much of the good 90s stuff just wasnt hugely popular. Getting around to Spiritualized, Fugazi, Guided by Voices, Pavement and dozens of more bands that got zero radio play but did amazing things can be a chore at first but is well worth it. I love the 90s and don't like any grunge and don't really think you have to like grunge to appreciate 90s at all.

Yeah, the grunge-type stuff being posted ITT isn't really why I love the 90s.

It was a great decade for female singer dorks imo.

Though it was also good if you liked Jewel and the other Lilith Fair types...

I remember spewing for PJ Harvey really early in the music label draft and don't regret it a bit. Best artist of 90s imo. Anyways, prob time for me to slink back to the EDF thread.

here's the thing. i'm an ex music nerd. i know all that crap. GbV i never liked. Pavement never got into. In general not into singers who sound bored and try to be clever too much.

Spiritualized is pretty neat but again never got into. But I can dig them in terms of "they're doing something pretty different and out there."

And fugazi.. i have mixed feelings. I own a lot of fugazi and liked it a ton. And I guess I still do though I haven't listened to them in prob a couple years(argument is their best record, people who say otherwise are hipsters). But I don't know. Did I like it cuz it's good or cuz i was a hardcore kid and i was supposed to like anything mackaye released? I'll agree that Fugazi is pretty good. But a lot of it is boring tripe in retrospect. RECLAMATION. Also I think mackaye is a pretty detestable character in retrospect so maybe i'm just backlashing on him a bit. They're a pretty tight, sick band.

Know who i really like? Best driving music i know. LUNA. Heard them on uc davis's station a few years ago and decided to check them out. Don't know their whole discography, but Penthouse is a killer album. Bewitched is OK. This somewhat conflicts with my boring clever singers remark.

Can't say i hate the 90s. Guess a lot of my bands i grew up on are from that era. Just trying not to romanticize it. THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS GOAT.

It's not at all like that. I already mentioned I like most of everything mentioned earlier in the Das Boot post. Most of that 90's stuff I liked a lot.

Additionally punk/ska stuff.. Rancid/LTJ/Bad Religion/Rise Against/Against Me are the most recent concerts I've been to. The band I listen to the most anymore is Flogging Molly. Also, quite a bit of rap.

But I like all that stuff mentioned earlier. Just not those bands I listed that all feel in a similar vein to me. Honestly, I like most of everything but none of those huge mega rock bands have ever appealed to me.
