I love the 90s and don't like any grunge and don't really think you have to like grunge to appreciate 90s at all.
here's the thing. i'm an ex music nerd. i know all that crap. GbV i never liked. Pavement never got into. In general not into singers who sound bored and try to be clever too much.
Spiritualized is pretty neat but again never got into. But I can dig them in terms of "they're doing something pretty different and out there."
And fugazi.. i have mixed feelings. I own a lot of fugazi and liked it a ton. And I guess I still do though I haven't listened to them in prob a couple years(argument is their best record, people who say otherwise are hipsters). But I don't know. Did I like it cuz it's good or cuz i was a hardcore kid and i was supposed to like anything mackaye released? I'll agree that Fugazi is pretty good. But a lot of it is boring tripe in retrospect. RECLAMATION. Also I think mackaye is a pretty detestable character in retrospect so maybe i'm just backlashing on him a bit. They're a pretty tight, sick band.
Know who i really like? Best driving music i know. LUNA. Heard them on uc davis's station a few years ago and decided to check them out. Don't know their whole discography, but Penthouse is a killer album. Bewitched is OK. This somewhat conflicts with my boring clever singers remark.
Can't say i hate the 90s. Guess a lot of my bands i grew up on are from that era. Just trying not to romanticize it. THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS GOAT.
