At this point shouldn't we revoke Chills undertitle and let him get a POG one?

"The Colour and the Shape" is the best album of the 1990s, including Everlong, which is possibly the best song ever made.

If you think Wonderwall is a top 2 Oasis song then you for sure have not listened to Definitely Maybe or even the rest of Morning Glory. Also don't talk to BAIDS about Oasis, he overrates them absurdly.

90s was absolutely absurd. Tons of legit great poppy radio songs (Hey Jealousy, Flagpole Sitta, Semi-Charmed Life, You Get What You Give). Tons of great songs and albums under the vague "alternative" label - big four of grunge but also like Garbage, Foo Fighters, Butthole Surfers, etc.

Then, underneath all that, a bunch of perfect indie albums (Spiritualized, Bjork, Neutral Milk Hotel, GYBE, etc.) and a layer of great-but-less-hyped albums even further below (The Magic City and Bunny Gets Paid come to mind as two I love, but I can't do justice to this category in summary.)

Then you add on that the decade saw the best work of the best two bands of the last 30 years in Nirvana and Radiohead. Transcendent, imo. Still finding way more great "new" music from the 90s than all other decades combined.

theyre cheesy pop songs from every era, not just the 90's. if anything its much much worse now with every song sounding like mass produced party music.

90s music mostly ruled, woulda been nice to lose Pearl Jam and Radiohead, though.

Yeah, won't argue against this. Bob Dylan wanted to cover Everlong. That's how awesome the song is.

Watching The Wire for the 6th time currently just to make sure my girlfriend actually watches every episode!

I dunno.. I've just never liked Radiohead at all. I don't understand why I couldn't get into them. I feel like I should like them. Not comparing them to Deftones at all, but was kinda the same. All my friends that liked the same music as me liked Deftones, I just couldn't get into them.

Speaking of new discoveries and "the 80s", I recently stumbled upon Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Just brilliant. Not sure if it will suit an american audience but maybe I'm using lazy 90s stereotypes. Also these links work outside UK but it's pretty easy to find these episodes. Well worth it.

Recommend watching when high

Episode 1

Episode 2

Episode 3

Episode 4

Episode 5

Episode 6

Oasis kinda blew. I mean I get their appeal (especially for kids who never listened to the Beatles and weren't aware they did the same thing 30 years earlier way better) but I could never get past that dude's nasaly whiny voice.

"SAWMDAY YOU WAHL FIIIIIIIIND MEEE CWAWT BENEAAATH A LANDSLAWWWWD OF A CHAMPAGE SUPAHNOVER IN DA SKY-AYYYYYYYY"

Puke.

Also Radiohead pre-OK Computer = good. Post = garbage.

Really? itt people call good bands bad.

Etats list is nice though. Man, Inside Out is such a horrific song. For that matter so is Closing Time by Semisonic, which in reading all these posts somehow didn't get mentioned (or if it did I missed it). 90s had a lot of great music. Those were not it.

If forced to choose three songs that I liked the best of the 90s alternative it would probably be Ball and Chain by Social D, Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine, and Closer by NIN. All should be played at maximum volume.
