~1994 era music was just about as ELIte as it was for film. You also gotta mention Candlebox, Better than Ezra, Gin Blossoms, Cranberries, etc.

1b. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (might as well cheat twice)
2. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
3. Weezer - Blue
4. Nirvana - Nevermind
5. Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
6. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
7. Soundgarden - Superunknown
8. Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
9. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
10. Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
No "Core" or "Vitalogy"? Easily both better than 3-4 on that list, IMO.

I can see OK Computer not counting as "alternative rock" but The Bends (imo) clearly is and clearly deserves a place. Would also quibble with your album selection for Nirvana and Weezer. Pretty good list though.

Those bands went on a tour together and depending on which city they were in, flip-flopped the headliner. Here, Live headlined. Adam Duritz read some piece of paper to the crowd about a battered womens' shelter and some girl next to us turned to her friend and said "Isn't he soo awesome!?" lol. It's hard to believe Duritz got to **** both Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox in their prime.

Ed Kowalcyk covered the first part of the Eminem song "The Way I Am", to which the crowd started cheering. Then he cut it off and went on some mini-rant about how ****ty today's music was. lol. Buzzkill.

I just read up on Live and apparently he left the band 2 years ago, and the remaining members joined up with the singer from Candlebox and started a band called The Gracious Few.

The first 3 CDs I ever bought were Throwing Copper, Weezer Blue, and STP's Purple. I used to play them in my parents' bedroom on the only CD player in our house - some giant thing they bought and never used. My Country/Rap-loving brother looked at the cover of Weezer Blue album and was like "who the **** are these nerds?" Within a couple weeks I caught him playing the CDs himself. lol.
brag: saw Live with Candlebox in a bar during sxsw last year
beat: no ed kowalczyk

the lack of Alice in Chains itt is mildly disturbing

I liked their green album, though it was a drop-off. I wonder what Dom thinks of Weezer, since Ric Ocasek had such a hand in their sound.

One day in 1994 or whatever my friend and I went trick-or-treating (didn't dress up - just walked around and tried to get candy). One house had a jack-o-lantern on the porch with sunglasses on and a sign next to it that said "Blind Melon".

We knocked on the door and some guy came out and handed us candy and goes "Have you heard of Blind Melon??" with this weird smile on his face like it was really clever, pointing to his get-up. So I just deadpanned "Have you heard of Smashing Pumpkins?" and my friend laughed and the guy's mouth went agape and we put the candy in the bag, turned around and just left. LOL. This was prior to sunset so I bet that dude was looking out his window all night worried we were gonna get his poor pumpkin.

SEEEEEEEEE ESSSSSSSSSSSSS BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE yo

Alannis after Jagged Little Pill was a huge drop-off*. Of course I'm pretty certain some old Jewish guy behind the scenes wrote all her hits, and she had Flea and Dave Navorro as session musicians.

LOLannis, LOL Canada, LOL Joey Gladstone

*She was like 21 and everyone thought she was gonna own popular music for the next 15 years.
