I dont think this is true at all. I've changed my religious viewpoint over time due to introspection and talking to people that hold different beliefs. I have done the same with politics and even changed my presidential vote on the basis of some compelling arguments made by some friends on some of the issues at hand this year. Its only a specific subset of generally low intelligence individuals that don't listen to and consider the other sides' arguments and it just so happens that those people tend to be the most vocal in those forums while being less vocal about things like art, physics, opera, etc. I think this causes many people to come to the above conclusion even though it is equally difficult to change stupid people's opinions on just about any subject.
