They'll probably have a press conference somewhere in CT in the next few days where they'll say "From my cold dead hands". It's generally accepted that the NRA is pretty crazy.

(My state allows instant gunshow purchases and that should be closed LDO)

Political debates on the internet are AIDS in general, but all I saw a lot of backlash against Costas a few weeks ago. Given what I read about what happened today, pretty much all of his points about Belcher and the current gun control climate can also be applied to this situation. I'm by no means the most left-wing dude in the world, but I think a lot of what he/Whitlock said are very good points, and I find it scary that something only furthering their points happened so shortly after they were made.

We could have a hunger games type battle. Everyone who wants to own an automatic weapon could enter and we'll rope off Iowa for the battle. Televise it live for $299.99 and have Costas announce it. Winner gets to keep their guns. Losers, well, you get the point.

Why do people keep bringing up automatic weapons? Like no one is in favor of handing those out.

guy on cnn citing that the gun bans caused this. according to him the aurora theater was the only one in 7 withing 20 min of the shooter's home that banned guns. also, this elementary school banned guns. imo we should get teachers packing. I mean, if wiper could carry to school you think any kid is ever gonna walk in there and shoot up his class?

see above. this is not true. he was in favor of being able to carry all weapons anywhere. no gun free zones and no banned guns.

What if we started by putting a police officer in the school (or a group of schools). That might be a decent option between "ban all guns" and "give guns to everyone".

Right, well he's bat****. I would guess very few people are really in favor of allowing the sale of fully automatic weapons.

Don't you think it would take more than one? You'd have to have a metal detector and at least 4 or 5 imo. If the guy walks up already armed and ready to fire he can pretty easily pop a cop or two.

he just cited that you dont see many shootings at gunshows because everyone else is armed. seems pretty true actually. maybe you guys are onto something.

Sure, but we have to start somewhere. If we get to the point where people are arming up and attacking uniformed police officers in spots like this, we can change the behavior.

Well that's true, but it's not necessary to arm everyone. Just allow citizens that don't have violent histories to carry guns and it's less likely someone will attack in places where people are likely armed.

A school doesn't need to be a gun-free zone, but again, public areas can be patrolled by law enforcement.

dont you think the non-violent people would have trouble actually using the guns? I honestly dont know if I could just shoot someone, especially before they actually shot someone else. I really really doubt I could pull the trigger on someone pointing a gun at myself or anyone else given they haven't fired yet and if they've already fired isn't it too late?

also, I think one point that massively hurts the argument in favor of guns and arming citizens is that pretty much every one of these stories ends in a suicide. How does threatening someone with death scare someone who plans to put a bullet in their own head less than 10 minutes later? why would I be scared to attack someone who might have a gun if I'm dying no matter what?

Some states require training, and even if it's not required it's readily available. If you buy a gun for defense I'd think you'd want to learn how to shoot it, but that's just me.

I've never drawn a gun on anyone, intent to kill or not, but just having it is most of the deterrent.

but theyre ****ing willing to die. the incentives are not aligned here. If you banned someone from posting in NFL gameday threads for 2 days for bad posting it doesnt discourage them from posting poorly in a MNF thread. Killing them doesnt disincentivize their actions when theyre gonna do it themselves.
