Also "Point That Thing Somewhere Else" is pretty good.

I'd support a gov't buyback program of guns where the gov't pays people 150% of the value to ship them their gun in connection with outlawing them. Democrats would love this as it would help the poor and middle class disproportionately. Make it so.

You could pretty much solve everything with this strategy. It's a little objectifying, of course, but again, if women were to band together and say "no sex until we establish a livable space colony" we'd be chillin' in our astro-home orbiting Pluto in like 9 years.

Wouldn't work at all since black market prices would be more than 150% of the value I'd think.

so you'd sell on the black market and risk jail (given that it is now illegal) rather than recoup your costs and a profit and mail that **** to the government? thats kind of surprising to me.

I also think that some of these killers would have a little tougher time finding their way around the deep underground black market than they do under current conditions. I highly suspect that these people aren't the types that come across as trustworthy and unlikely to talk if they get held up by the cops or FBI and I doubt the black market likes those types, especially when theyre buying on such a small scale.

This will be part of the platform. Anonymous might be able to leverage this strategy into actually getting laid themselves, which would be a windfall from their perspective. It's just networking.

Meh, not a stretch to assume it wouldn't take a whole lot to sell it.

Then again, the government has such a good history of keeping verboten stuff out of the hands of the citizens (Here and Here) I guess I should be pretty scared they'd get me...

pretty sure that the punishments for drugs and alcohol would deter more people if they were higher. also, afaik guns arent physically addictive.

Joking aside, this strikes me as a good point.

Wouldn't work. Value of the guns goes up exponentially as guns get rarer. Supply and Demand.

The black market eventually takes over.

I've seen studies suggesting that the widespread proliferation of pornography has reduced the incidence of rape, so that's just opening up a whole new can of worms

Solid point. I bet if we make every crime punishable by death we'd get rid of crime pretty quickly.

Tell me more.

So people who want guns wouldn't buy them because they don't get the shakes when they can't pop a few rounds off every day??

in all seriousness though. I dont smoke weed, but would those of you that do still do it if it was punishable by 5 years minimum for a first offense? life in prison? death penatly? If you make the punishments tough enough then only the absolute fanatics are going to do it.

I don't always read gun control debates, but when I do, it's in the sports section of a poker website

I know a handful of people who own guns legally. I've had this conversation with them before and they all said they would hand them over if they became illegal and had any real punishment for keeping them (ie. not a fine or 6 months probabtion, but jail time or something more serious).

Even a majority of NRA members support closing the gunshow loophole. Their leadership is bat**** insane.

Also, in LDO news, politicians are disgraceful scum who refuse to stand up to the NRA.

Guess that settles it then. My bad guys. Ban guns and they'll all go away. All I ask is when you submit this paper for peer review, you list my name in the acknowledgement section.
