Or, we just accept that the vast majority of people use their cars responsibly and don't try to cater our laws/policies to stop the few times people do stupid ****.

I still think better care for the mentally ill is a far more important take away than gun control from these situations. (not that gun control isn't important).

The other thing about gun control is that both sides are so dug in, and the reality is that it's no longer (although maybe that changes) a plank on the Dem platform. You just start fights and don't get anywhere with the argument. There's so little chance for the conversation to be constructive, why not focus where there's a chance we'll actually make some changes?

Wait, you bought something for the purpose of not using it? You might want to consider investing in an NHL team.

republicans should throw this into fiscal cliff talks. we'll ban guns if you cut spending in these areas by this amount might be the unique spin it takes to get something done.

Tanner, there's a reason a crime behind the wheel is less. Most fatalities arising from cars are accidents or due to poor driving. Most gun related homicides are not.

yea tanner, as a rule of thumb insurance policies are the only thing you should buy with the hopes of not using it.

Has it been confirmed this is a mentally ill situation? I guess that's kind of a dumb question given we'd all say someone who kills 20+ people is 'nuts' of a sort, but doing this requires planning and foresight. If the guy was suffering through some sort of hallucination and wasn't treated I get it, but I don't see how mental care availability can help an organized psychotic.

Improving law enforcement response is helpful too. A lot of places have started placing officers in schools. It costs a little more, but it's obviously safer and doesn't rely on dumb **** like arming teachers/students.

Are you sure? I'd like to see a source on that stat

Of course guns are used in homicides more often, they're guns. When used incorrectly guns can be realllllllly ****ing dangerous.

I'm not going to buy a handgun in the hopes someone "tries" me so I can shoot them. I don't live in Florida or Texas.

I do partially wonder why we don't have the special breathalyzers that morons on probation for DUI are forced to get in every car. It's surely a cost thing, but I would think MADD would be all over that, even if just for people in the 18-29 range or w/e.

Well, the good news is that if we did ban alcohol, no one could get their hands on it if they wanted it.

Ever
