Yeah, these interviewers aren't professionals and doing it now is just a scramble to put together the closest story.

For the kids, at some point this is going to need to be revisited, I've read that's the best course of action for PTSD.

It's the same sort of reasoning behind statutory rape being a crime.

We can't assume that the kids are aware enough that they can decline to be interviewed if they don't want to discuss it.

I'm under the complete assumption that the news needs the expressed permission of the parent before asking these kids questions. If this is wrong then my entire perspective changes.

I'm basically assuming that the kid's parent(s) are there and the reporter asks the parents if it's OK to interview the kid, at which point the parent makes the decision based on whether or not they think the child can handle it.

the interviews i saw had the parents right there facilitating the whole thing. not that it excuses the media, but lol @ the parents.

That's too bad. Especially because we ditched the wedding pretty early cause it was kind of lame (except we got to troll John Beilein) and just went out downtown instead.

Idk where people are getting that idea that the kids were being exploited to the extent of being interviewed w/o a parent's consent/presence; that's clearly not what was happening.

Which is why I put the responsibility/blame on the parents for allowing their kid to have to recount something so traumatic so soon. Like, wtf is the benefit of that for your son/daughter?

Is there some standard mental health charity or something along those lines that comes in to help during situations like this? I doubt this town needs a food drive or anything, just don't really know where else to direct some $$ to help.
