Can someone please explain to me how you get offended if you dont want to be offended? I really dont get it. People who dont want to be offended never seem to be offended in my experience.

CDL,

It's usually a stupid term, but you may have a case of the White Man's Privileges here. I think you grossly overestimate a person's capacity to opt not to be offended.

TTI,

I will fully digest that once I place myself in a proper reading state, but on a quick skim that's pretty awesome.

(but **** ever using infraction points- even in fiction)

CDL,

If a guy coldcocked me once I'd probably avoid hanging out with him. Being in a position to get jacked in the face twice more is impressive.

That Neeson scene is unreal good. "I make lists, that's why Steven Spielberg cast me in Schindler's List"

I do admit that I am a white male, but I also think I have been discriminated against in the past and not only did it not bother me, but it became a sense of pride. When I was a gross minority in elementary school all I wanted to do was to prove my worth to the kids of other races. I worked until they accepted me and then once that happened I had to work until some of their parents accepted me (one of my friend's mom turned me away at the door for my friends 9th birthday because "he aint tell me he was invitin white boys"-I still remember the exact words and what she was wearing as well as I remember that my friend brought me cake in his backpack on the following monday). This seriously motivated me to prove that I was worthy to people who didnt know me. It didnt offend me at all, it just made me want to prove I was good enough to be a part of these social circles. 2 years later when he was 11 he was shot and killed when a gun misfired and his mom invited me to the funeral and gave me a hug. People have a huge capacity to forgive and forget. Why we blow things up to epic proportions has never made sense to me.

former frat brother of my best friend. sometimes social circles overlap. also, he kinda has a hair trigger and a propensity to blackout.

I said hi to a guy who has coldcocked me in the face 3 times in the past 4 years about 6 weeks ago when I saw him in the grocery store. His response was "why the **** are you talking to me?" It didn't phase me a bit and I told him "have a good night."
LOL

ah man. this thread.

edit: to your first point, sure I have never been arrested for a crime I didnt commit or not admitted to college or anything like that due to my race, but I also have been discriminated against because of it.

yea. I was. If I ever punched him back I know it wouldve ended it (and my friend couldve beat both our asses simultaneously and I knew he had my back-he was there all 3 times), but I didnt really care to. I'm not really a fighter so I usually talk my friends out of fights and never really am a target or instigator, but this guy had a problem a few years back because I talked some **** about Joakim Noah and then later Tebow and it got me punched a few times. Whatever. It hurt for a day and then it was gone. No biggie. I cant be the only one who has ever gotten punched and not fought back.

i could see circumstances where not retaliating after the first time isn't necessarily being a punk bitch, but it requires being in some kind of public place where you don't want to cause a disruption. and even then if it happens a second time he's getting confronted and probably hit somewhere after the fact

meh. time one was in a frat house basement over a game of beerpong and I was going to react as any drunk guy would, but before I could my friend had already thrown him against the wall and threatened to kill him if he ever touched me again and he was literally tearing up while apologizing.

Time two was in a bar and his girlfriend started hysterically crying and was pushing him out of the bar with a bouncer on the other arm while he kept trying to come towards me and was talking ****. Throwing a punch would just be asking to get arrested or at least thrown out of the bar.

Time three was outside a bar and cops are always in the area so I just walked the other way while some of his friends pushed him across the street and into a taxi.

The first one was by far the worst as I was 100% caught off guard and he had a running start. The other two I knew to be careful and expect something silly to happen.

When I said hi to him it was just my natural reaction. I hadn't seen him since the third punch, but what was he really going to do in Kroger?
