It's really a shame he had to kill someone else in the process and in front of his coaches. I can't feel the compassion for him like I could for Junior Seau. Especially since he is leaving a 3 month old child to be an orphan. It's a cowardly act any way you look at it.

Yeah, since I kind of started this thing in the other thread, I'll say that I feel similarly about a lot of these types of cases (like after the Aurora shooting, which I thought was the result of an isolated/depressed guy with mental illness that nobody ever reached out to). I just don't think very many people are inherently evil -- they get driven to do these things for various reasons, and it's sad all-around. That doesn't equate to defending their actions or anything like that.

lol @ comparing this guy to Charles Manson.

And, in hindsight, I had very little clue of what I was doing. Especially wrt limit poker. I remember I logged off and went to Home Depot that night with my girlfriend and was just gaga over the thought of how much money I could make doing this **** in my spare time. So I bought a riding lawnmower. Just kidding.

Cut to years later and, while I ended up being a profitable online player, it was nowhere near what I had projected based on that first session. Basically a lot of wasted hours on the weekend grinding 6 table or whatever for barely better than breakeven results. Or I'd be up and go up in limit then lose it all. Or drink and get in chat fights and donk it off in HUNL matches to better opponents. Once my profitability plumetted (compared to my real job hourly rate) I basically dropped to micros on FT and played an hour or so when I was bored or needed some mental stimulation. Or I'd rail Dwan v. Ivey or whatever at the nosebleeds.

It isn't about what; it's about how. Jokes and jumped-to conclusions are fine as long as they aren't malicious or nincompoopish. As long as people realize (1) sensitivity is important, and (2) vehemently defending various theories on agency and mental illness and how this happened isn't important, the discussion'll probably be reasonable. That effectively destroys any chance it has of becoming an interesting thread (edit: except as a place to collect news), but some threads aren't meant to be that interesting.

Guess who has the 500 game sharkscope record for most average profit from the 60 dollar 45 man sit and gos! This guy (or at least did till black friday afaik)! They randomly added some 60 dollar 45 men turbos on pokerstars one day and I played a bunch and everyone was terrible and in my first 500 I ran hot as the sun and averaged literally like 35 bucks a game before anyone understood ICM and whatnot. I subsequently basically was completely break even after that for like 2.5 or 3 years after those first 500 games. Won a decent amount in pokerstars mtts but was like -40k in full tilt mtts I could never win anythingggg at all on that stupid site.

I have so much respect for the *winning* cash game players. No chance I would beat 1/2 NL on pokerstars or full tilt. Sngs are the way to go if you have no talent but don't mind sitting there and playing monotonous as hell on 25 tables and collecting rakeback like a ******. I got destroyed in the 55+ mtts for my career on stars and tilt and was down so much money in the majors. Thank god for staking.

Oh yeah I never signed up for rakeback. Lazy and didn't really know how to do it anyway.

Cruise ship poker is the most profitable form I've seen. Playing 1/2 NL I'm averaging about $30/hour over a pretty large sample (slow ass hand per hour, too - everybody chatting and ordering drinks and stuff). On average there is 1 or 2 other people at the table who have a fundamental clue. The other 7 are pure vacation donks.

Was playing at 2am 3 handed and one lady was terrible and told us her husband was a doctor (mistake). She was pretty drunk and was in a hand with me. She got up during the flop to go order a drink and I flopped a set and shoved like $50. Her timer was counting down and I called her "Hey, it's about to fold you". So she hurries back and glances down and just hits call after like 2 seconds then goes back to the waiter. I looked at the other dude at the table and we just laughed. After that hand I felt bad and went to bed. In general I have no problem taking money from competitive idiots but this was just taking candy from a baby. I was already well up on the trip anyway.

Yes. You're basically saying "Since I would judge people this way, I assume you would too."

How much do you have to play to make the entire trip +EV? sounds like fun anyway though, playing against a bunch of drunk tourists with no annoying regs.

The product tie-in there is suspect unless I'm missing something. Because she drives a Lexus she's more likely to go to a party and meet someone?

Maybe they didn't get rave reviews for the previous Christmas commercials that were like "daddy just dropped $50K on a new ride for mommy even though her old SUV was running just fine."
