Das Boot and Zimmer, nice posts.

And it makes me awfully happy I'm living in Canada where these just aren't issues for us anymore...and we've got a right-of-centre majority in Parliament.

In all seriousness, it's time for the GOP to look at what the Canadian Conservatives under Stephen Harper have done and start thinking about implementing some of that framework. David Cameron's Conservatives in the UK as well, for that matter. They've won elections by running on platforms that prioritize economic policy but still remain socially progressive. And when you can no longer be painted as the big bad socially conservative boogeyman, you take the bat out of the left's hands pretty quickly. 2011 Canadian Federal Election was a great example; almost killed the Liberal party for good, which would've been unthinkable only 5-6 years ago.

Americans don't hate weed, and the idea that because they do, the government will go after legalized marijuana dispensaries is wrong.

Most Americans dislike legalized heroin use, but no one in this thread other than you has brought that up, so solid work on that front I guess.
hey man, i have consistently talked about drugs in general and not pot specifically. ill stand by mericans hate drugs and so does leo. furthermore it sure makes leo feel important.

Would be cooler still if Congress would come together and say that all people are entitled to equal protection under the law, regardless of whether or not you were born liking similar or different genitals and just repeal DOMA.

Whichever really.

*Best of all would be for them to decide that the government has to reason to be involved in marriage anyway and let that **** die it's natural death in a few generations.

Republicans getting wise to social issues might even lead to both parties having to adopt clearer, less bastardized fiscal platforms that are actually a lot more similar to what they claim to be, and stop being so detrimental just from being such weird muddy compromises of themselves.

Won't happen, but is a nice thought. Hopefully the above paragraph makes a bit of sense, I'm pretty sleep deprived.
