I mean, people get butthurt over their teams losing, sure. But I can't think of anyone who has expressly cheated in some kind of SE contest that was for nothing but bragging rights. And I definitely can't think of anyone who's engaged in felony activity over SE butthurt.

I'm reminded of Kissinger's statement that "the politics of academia are so vicious because the stakes are so small". A forum-appropriate corollary might be: "The amount of butthurt displayed by the losing party is inversely proportional to the stakes of the contest."

This isn't a pissing contest, it's an observation based on the evidence that people in POG take their games way too seriously. It's not like I think playing games makes you a loser, but the degree of butthurt and/or criminal activity displayed by some posters suggests a need for other interests.

the soccerers would be the reporters. they probably writhe on the ground and hold their knee when they send it too.

i've reported a couple soccer posts. wasn't very butthurt iirc, soccer posting community just less effectively self-policing + more of a mod dead zone. also "acceptance of statistics" is a pretty effective/obvious litmus test for basketball/baseball/football posters that doesn't really exist in soccer.

yeah there's less use of statistics in soccer discussion, so it's more subjective than most stuff around here probably

also there are a lot of really PASSIONATE p0sters with decades old rivalries/grudges/etc so the potential exists for the threads to devolve into total AIDS at any point, and is rarely at a very high/useful/meaningful level, just a lot of subjective homering. but that's the way they like it i guess...

Could've had a great story about drinking OE 40s and shooting teenagers with a paintball gun.
