There are few things in life more tilting than the following:

When a casualfan.jpeg is watching a game with his team in it, a player scores a big TD which goes against his team and he says, "I don't know whether to cheer or be upset! Because that's great for my fantasy team, but really bad for my real team!"

Not quite as tilting as:

Falcons fan watches a 1 yard TD pass go to Ovie Mughelli. "NOOOOOOOOO Why do they do that? Run the ball with Turner at the goal line! Ugh... this is bull**** and it happens all the time!"

Watching MNF with fantasy players. Well, I'm down 18 points and I have Brady and the 49ers defense but my opponent has Welker and Gronk. So all I need is like Brady to throw to Welker, Welker takes it 40 yards downfield, then fumbles, the 9ers pitch it backwards a few times and score a TD! That way Brady gets 40 yards, Welker gets the fumble points taken away and the 9ers get all those points!

Your fantasy team is just like your dreams...to you it's the most interesting thing ever, but when anyone starts telling you about theirs, you instantly zone out and stop paying attention to a word they're saying

i finally realized that i too was bored with my own fantasy team so i stopped playing.

to me, picking every game against the spread >> fantasy football. less time commitment, less having to follow nonsense like college football, the draft, and training camp, no putting on a long sleeved shirt to listen to people's CSBs about who they started one week versus another week - more about the fun of watching games.

This is why I usually prefer to watch sports by myself, particularly the NFL.

was there a fantasy sports boom about a year ago?

I feel like there's literally 10 times more people bringing it up everywhere on the Internet in comparison to idk 2010

I'd like to thank whoever brought up the movie "Hanna" in here; I never would've watched it just looking at the write-up on the TV Guide info. Pretty good flick.

That was me. You're welcome. It's the least I could do in return for this thread convincing me to watch The Wire.

I remember one year I had a decent amount of money on an 8 vs. 9 March Madness game and the guy next to me was losing his **** because of bracket implications, eventhough he had the 1 seed beating them in the next round.

I bet every NCAA tourney game ATS for $500 as a senior in college (thinly veiled) and one of my roommates wanted action so I gave him $20 of my action on all the games. By the time the night games rolled around we had people over at our place on the first Fri and people were bitching about how they couldnt afford for the 9 seed to lose or the 10 seed to win despite only having them win one game in a $10 bracket or because they needed to stay in the 98th percentile in the free bracket challenge online. I was just laughing about most of it until I covered one of the games on a meaningless FT at the end and my roommate gave it a fistpump and poured some shots while a few people asked why that FT mattered. I dont think anyone else complained about their bracket the rest of the night.

i play in a pool with friends, not with some bookie. i just realized i hated watching any game with fantasy implications, it changed how i watched any game, and for the worse.

I dont remember. I'm pretty sure I bet against jumanjiboard though so maybe he has a record of it. I was up a ton in the first round and through the first weekend and then slowly gave some back each remaining round iirc.

sooooo true (both dreams and fantasy).

i don't even bring up fantasy anymore because then i'd have to listen to somebody else's story.

Actually, this is the primary reason I dislike fantasy football and NCAA brackets, particularly how they're pitched to the public now. And yes, I get the value and prevalence of "casual fans" to major league sports, but that doesn't make them any less obnoxious when they desperately pretend like they give a **** about that sport just to have one more inane topic to discuss at the water cooler.
