Kind of yeah, but since this movie was made with most of the same cast (Ledger obv did an incredible job) and the same writer and director, I don't think that's an altogether unreasonable expectation.

If it's a Christopher Nolan movie and it's an 8/10 it's a failure

Note I haven't seen it yet.

Remember that TDK's greatness was a lot due to Ledger's performance though. And to expect that caliber of movie again is wishful thinking. I know I wasn't.

I wasn't expecting Hardy to be Ledger-esque but part of the problem is that he had one of the better jobs of anyone in the movie. It wasn't his fault it was a less-than-stellar effort, it was mostly the poor writing.

Why are fanbois so butthurt that someone doesn't absolutely love the film and feel the need to defend it ad nauseum? It was a 6/10 for me, better than average but so full of unintentional lulz that it's not worthy of a hiring rating (to me). If you want to love it, go ahead. I don't care.

I didn't love it, it had plenty of flaws. But 6/10 is not accurate, sorry

i figure the guy who made a bat**** insane bet on tdkr beating avatar in box office and then went to see the midnight showing on thursday probably has a rational, objective view of the film.

The main plot device is a ****ing ticking time bomb that Batman saves with mere seconds remaining. Just think about how cliched that is, and then tell me that a 6/10 is unreasonable

what's the square root of the WAR of the film? is that how you calculate xfip?

i cannot dispute this

edit: fwiw my contention isn't that stuff like what RT or sethy are saying are stupid, just this notion that it's a bad movie because it wasn't dark knight, which was only amazing by comparison because of heath ledger

Wow, I drove right by that place without realizing it was more than a strip club. Gonna need to check that out.

The place I went to tonight was on the same street about 20 blocks down. Tons of clueless players with really great staff that knows when to be quiet and when to be a little sardonic. Flat rake ("club fee") of $10 per day, which seems to be standard here, and also ****ing awesome.

Yeah no rake allowed. Club fees are ridiculous.

a rope leading out of the pit that no one has thought to climb.
Spoiler:
The rope doesn't lead out of the pit. They always harness the rope on a rock midway up the wall and when Batman gets out of the pit, he throws another rope down into it.

5. If you're Chris Nolan, maybe don't cast Marion Cotillard as crazy evil bitch since she looks like the crazy evil bitch from your last movie.

The biggest plothole imo is ...
Spoiler:
Bruce Wayne goes busto the day after the stock exchange gets robbed and everyone is all like "Oh, I guess we need to execute all the trades that happened after a crazed masked man with motorcycle thugs moved a bunch of assets to an offshore account

This is more nitpicky, but

Spoiler:
Batman shows up on the ice as Gordon is about to get exiled and instead of Gordon et. al saying "Hey that's awesome Batman, but we need to get back on land where we won't die if the ice cracks". Everyone is cool with him using a flare to light a wick on fire.

I thought the movie was entertaining and enjoyable to watch, but it was 7/10 on the etats scale. I don't mind the plot holes since I'm goatish at suspending my belief.

My 3 biggest problems:

Spoiler:
Thematic continuity

In the previous 2 films, the themes of fear (BB) and chaos/chance/choice (TDK) were woven intricately into the fabric of the plot. It connected all the elements of the story with the patient character development. The theme in TDKR was supposed to be pain, but it wasn't prominent at all and was not at the forefront. As a result, there was very little synergy between the individual elements of the movie. The whole was decidedly lesser than the parts.

Spoiler:
Character development

The development of the relationships between bane/talia and batman/catwoman were so lol. Especially the latter- Nolan threw that in there at the end just for ****s and giggles.

The Robin side plot was completely unnecessary, they should have cut him out and spent more time developing the other characters.

Spoiler:
the cliches

My one pet peeve in movies is when all the characters in a scene already know about a plot element, but feel the need to explain it in terms that a 5 year old can understand it. That **** never happens in real life. If 9 world class expert poker players are sitting around a table, they're not going to be slowly articulating the rules of holdem.

"A flush beats a straight! I was losing on the turn but now I have the best hand, so I win the pot!"
"Why are you talking like that, phil?"

I understand that you need to explain stuff to the viewer, but don't get lazy man. That scene where the catwoman and that other dude were explaining the computer program made me go:

Also the timebomb and the catwoman-batman love story at the end were lol

clumsy "as you know, robin..." exposition in dialogue is a staple of comic books so that was probably just another homage
