i'm definitely not one to talk, but watching, say, a family eat at a restaurant is incredibly depressing. at least two people will be grimly reading/typing on their phone.

semi grunching (skipped a ton of posts) but I can't believe how many people are unable to function without the ability to text. I have a friend who I'd be at a bar with and I'd be telling him something and he'd start texting in middle of conversation. I would just stop and he'd say "I'm listening" and I'd tell him I'll wait till he's done.

Another friend would sit at the bar and actually put his phone on some kind of stand and set it on the bar so as not to miss any texts.

completely bizarre and pathetic.

Don't understand why texting gets people so mad. It's 2012, yo. Texting in a bar/restaurant even when being spoken to is totally acceptable given that you aren't ignoring the person talking to you.

Yes?

Are you unable to listen/talk and text at the same time?

I also have a pretty big case of ADD though so maybe it's not as standard as I think.

just seems incredibly rude. if i start texting someone during conversation then it's obvious that my focus is elsewhere. disrespectful to whoever i'm talking to.

texting while someone is talking to you is extremely rude and absolutely not standard among anyone over the age of 12

LOL so if we're at the bar drinking and talking about the game and I get a text and respond to it real quick it's "extremely rude"? I mean texting takes like 5 seconds maximum.

You wait for a lull in the conversation and then text. That's the advantage of texting over phone calls, you can respond at your leisure

define "talking about the game." if I say "oh he should have had that" and you bust out and send a text that's fine. If I say anything that could remotely qualify as conversation then yes, it's "extremely rude."

Texting while driving depends. It's bad the majority of the time, and really bad some of the time. (people texting while driving on a busy interstate, wtf are you doing)

It's not that bad if you're alone on the interstate at like 2 am, and send a quick text. I can do that with my eyes on the road, in the same time it takes to change the song on my ipod. Also not that bad if you're sandwiched between like 15 cars at a light that just turned red that you know lasts for like 3 minutes.

The most annoying for me is people who text that are at the front of a red light, and never look up. I don't think I had to use my horn once in this spot my first 8 years driving, and now I have to ****ing lay on it once every few weeks because some douche is just sitting there when the light turned green 15 seconds ago. ****ers.

Well yeah if it's a serious conversation obviously texting is real rude. Most conversations amongst my friends and I in bar situations qualify I as non-serious though.

this is how everyone thinks and then they end up just sitting at a green light while they send out their "OMG that wuz so kewl" narrative that can't possible wait until they are no longer driving.

If you're not on the horn after three seconds you're doing it wrong.
