i watched it week to week in season 5, but they did this weird thing where you could get it On Demand starting Sunday at around midnight the week before the episode would air live

when you're used to bombing through a whole season in a few days it sucks to have to wait a week for every episode

Ya Karak, either Deadwood or Breaking Bad. If you start watching Breaking Bad now, you might even have a chance to finish S1-4 before S5 starts on like July 15. It would be perfect timing. These are by far my two favorite shows ever. (Haven't seen the Wire but have been meaning to, yeah yeah.)

I've seen the first few episodes of BB, and was really intrigued by it, but I'm weird in that I can't start a show until I finish the last show I'm watching. So that's on backburner until I'm done with Wire

I'm going to DVR the season to as it goes on so that when I catch up, I'll be good to go

It is pretty cool to be able to just shotgun through whole series in a week, especially when its a great show and you don't want to wait a whole week to see what happens. I'm pretty glad I got to watch the Wire like that. Sleep killing, but great.

You'll enjoy it when you get to it, im sure.

Marlo in the Antilles was pretty great. I can't be the only one who thought that if I were in his shoes I'd just keep my ridiculous money and stay there.

Freemon helping Jimmy with the SK was a really nice tough. Entirely believable from Lester too given his understanding of how things work in the PD.
Spoiler:
"believable" and "anything about the SK plotline" should really never be used in the same statement unless "not" is placed in front. On par with Landry Clark, serial killer from FNL for WTF writer's room decisions."

It works well both as episode by episode (at least once you've realized that it's worth getting through) and mainlining. Last two seasons were slightly more fun to do episode by episode because one of the Free Darko guys (Bethlehem Shoals aka Nathaniel Friedman) had a pretty lively blog with really good discussion if you liked that kind of thing.

To me it was just that new cop show on HBO for the first 4 eps, then it was that new show I really liked. It probably took me a season or two to realize I preferred it to the Sopranos, and I definitely didn't consider it GOAT until season 3*. I've watched it four times through since and obviously think it's far and away the best thing ever on television.

The funny thing is, I remember thinking while watching the first episode: "this is some bull**** sanitized version of The Corner!" Whereas now, I think it is so much better than The Corner ever was.

I'm aware simply responding to this post makes me a huge hipster.

*In my defense, this was the early 2000s before everything was instantly criticized and ranked in full. Or at least before I was aware of that phenomenon. Partly I just didn't stop to think it might have been the GOAT.

The blogging is something that could make a show good live time. I think if LOST came out before the internet got huge, it wouldn't of had the impact it did. Going online to discuss theories and do research and play along basically with the whole thing was half the fun of watching it. When I watched through it again on Netflix, it was with a roommate (who was watching it for the first time) and I wanted to make him wait some times during big parts just so he could think about it and anticipate the answer. Sometimes I feel like he just flew through it and didn't get the real experience

So what's the GOAT nonscripted show? I'm thinking Cops.

Reality game show I would go with Survivor.

I'm sure this won't be the majority opinion

Any Wire fans also watch The Venture Brothers? Obviously not remotely similar genres but they both have similar attention to story telling details.

Do you not have HBO Go? Could just stream every ep and not have to buy the DVDs.

(I bought the Wire before I had HBO Go but I'm not so hardcore that I'm glad I own them. It's a PITA to change discs when my lazy ass can just hit a few buttons instead.

Stannis was pretty heated up there at Blackwater. He led the charge and was ****ing fools up right and left. I seem to recall a particular unlucky fellow who lost the top part of his head at the end of Stannis' sword. A stark contrast to the fighting style of, say JOFF.

for unscripted, first few seasons of the ultimate fighter were so cool they had randy and chuck and then tito and shamrock as coaches and chris leban and sugar rashad and everyone and of course that epic bonner and griffen and then they had matt hughes and serra and bisping got into it and that deaf kid and sport was new on tv sort of like wpt when it first came out and those guys ended up being some pretty good fighters.

some good reality or unscripted on now that i watch sometimes include a new one "fast n loud" and ice road truckers lol and gold rush was good. oh first 48 was pretty sick and probably still is just dont watch as much.
