Sports are driven by context. I hear people say -- and I might have been known to say it myself -- that they don’t understand why anyone likes NASCAR: It’s just cars going in circles. But if you care about the sport, and those aren’t just cars but they are people -- people with rivals, with inspiring stories, with infuriating qualities and so on -- then suddenly it means a lot. Let’s face it, you can reduce all our games to the “Just” line -- it’s just cars going in circles ... it’s just tall men putting balls in baskets ... it’s just oversized daredevils in helmets smashing into each other … it’s just a guy with a bat hitting a ball that everyone chases … and so on. They’re all “just” games unless we infuse them with meaning.

now ill never watch nascar on TV, but if you ever get the chance to go to a race take it. the whole atmosphere is a lot of fun and it takes people watching to a new level.

This is kinda surprising tbh

Club football >>>>>> International football, in terms of quality.

I never thought I would like NFL or MLB but the bug really got me back at the start of the millennium. Some sports aren't for some people but I just don't see the point in complaining about them.

My wife and I are looking to get her clinical psych internship and my medical school in the same area, and New Orleans is looking like a good fit at the moment (I'm very competitive at Tulane, she has 3 sites she has a good shot at).

Is New Orleans really as dangerous as the murder capital of the US suggests? Or is it more like Chicago, where one half of the city is fairly safe while the other half is a **** hole?
It's closer to Chicago in that sense. Common sense goes a long, long way and the people who get murdered pretty much always know each other and had some dumb beef. Tourists and citizens not involved in the drug trade get killed very rarely, mostly from robberies gone bad. Most of the violent crimes are muggings of drunks wandering alone. Like I said, common sense. I've had zero issues, have lived here for over 6 years in various neighborhoods and am not planning on leaving anytime soon. PM if you have more questions about neighborhoods or in general or whatever.

Whenever people mention that they go "people watching" i always just substitute the word creepin'. A peer of mine last semester was talking about how he is on campus so much and is so bored, that he goes onto the campus connecter a few times a day to people watch and i didn't know how to react. It'll be interesting to see him on dateline or forensic files as a serial killer in 20-30 yrs.

I don't think there has ever been a movie that is dumber in conception, but that I will absolutely watch multiple times than Taken 2.

Why wouldn't they just snap kill the wife/daughter instead of "taking" them, since that worked out so well the first time? Makes no sense. I still don't care.
