really hope the NFL actually runs with replacement refs this year, and they aren't just bluffing. their work will surely take the gameday threads to a level of eliteness not yet seen, or even conceived of. can't wait.

so where are these replacement guys from, NCAA refs? high school? random dudes off the street?

and odds this dispute doesn't get settled before the season? on the face of it, seems insanely petting for the league/owners/whatever to play hardball with the refs when they're rolling in money.

I'm willing to yield to your experience here, but NFL refs are trained, examined, tested, and reexamined at a ridiculous rate. Making them watch film in the off season wouldn't change much imo.

NFL refs are amazing at what they do (as are most professional rule enforcers). They'll be made full time, they'll still make mistakes in a game moving near the speed of light, and we'll find another excuse ("We really need 12 refs out there, 7 just isn't cutting it...").

i don't get while people complain. hockey is just about done. have the finals thread, then the offseason thread. basketball you have your offseason thread and the 2 current matchups, which soon will be one. baseball sucks
