i vote in the madden cover

i vote all afc players except revis, where i always vote against him. can't let him get hit by the madden curse, but screw other teams

if i win the lotto, i'm investing it until i get enough to start an nfl franchise. then we'll finally see if 2p2ers can run a team better than others!

same here. would be kind of lol to buy a NBA franchise and let TZ run it. If they fail at least I can have a dominant arguing position in the future. If they succeed then I get rangzzzzzzz.

i'm fairly sure that i read somewhere that in florida 10,000 people play those numbers each week. the only thing i'm unsure on is if i'm missing a zero

Ignoring taxes ... it's still not, because too many people will play. Now and then a state lottery will approach or even exceed neutral EV (pre-tax), but the Powerball/megamillions never have even come close in the several years during which I've been watching for it.

Take out taxes at around 40% net for most people (including state taxes),a and a $5 ticket is probably worth around $2 for this drawing. Not like buying one is the most horrible thing in the world, but it's nice to know what you're getting.

(Of course, the biggest effect is the declining marginal utility of money — $200 million is pretty obviously not worth two hundred million times as much happiness as a dollar.)

I would argue that $200 million is worth 200 million times as much happiness as a dollar (since I wouldnt even know that I was missing a dollar). However, it is certainly not going to make me 200x as happy as $1 million. This is one of my big disagreements with the theory of diminishing marginal utility.

Are these tickets really $5 not $1 now? Might stop me from buying one.

Would $1M bring you more, less or right at a million times as much happiness as $1?

u dont care about a dollar, or two dollars, or 3, but at x dollars you do care. that spike in utility which represents dont care -> care can reasonably be spread out over each dollar which makes up x.
