Huge lol at either parks and rec or it's always sunny being better than Archer.

I can buy the argument Parks and Rec is better, though it's tougher after this season, but it's not funnier.

I usually align pretty well with 2p2's TV taste, but I've watched the first nine eps of Mad Men and don't get it at all... it seems really boring and I don't feel like anything is actually happening, plus it just feels like a really shallow depiction of the 60's. Does the series start kind of slow or am I just too dumb to appreciate it?

It's just another overrated show that people use to try and make them appear smarter, see Pudge for a prime example.

I've heard that a lot with Mad Men.. it's probably because the lack of any plot driven stuff. It's a very character driven show, the plot is just secondary. Not for some people.

that's the rhythm of the show. at first the show struggles with making things too obvious, but that goes away in later seasons. i would stick it out until the end of season 1, if you're not in by that point, the show's not going to catch you. it's entirely possible that the show's appeal is largely style, but i'm unwilling to admit that.

i really don't think that's it. all the other dramas that are being compared itt are full of violence (well ok i've never seen homeland but i assume it is too).

Homeland didn't have a ton of violence, but there was a threat of it pretty frequently. I loved it because it combined a pretty intense plot with some excellent character stuff (it wasn't completely plot driven the way something like 24 was).

I've loved some shows that were more character-driven... the issue with Mad Men is that I'm just not that interested in the characters so far.

Mad Men is great, though I can't be bothered to care much about the supporting cast. But Don Draper is such a well written and acted character that he singlehandedly makes the show elite.

Homeland doesn't have a ton of violence, but violence drives the plot. Mad Men doesn't have a perpetual threat that anyone could die, that doesn't make it plotless.

??? i never said it was plotless just that it wasn't violent which means a lot of people will find it boring.

it's like the sopranos: anytime there was an episode focusing on the characters where nobody got whacked a huge contingent of fans would claim that the episode sucked/was boring.

I never said its plotless.. but the plot does not drive the show, the character development does.

edit: Maybe "lack of plot driven" wasn't ideal. But I've always felt the plot is totally secondary to the characters.. and the plot is just there to give the characters a way to be the characters.

Parks and Rec was basically the best show on TV last season, not funnier than Archer, but better. This season not as much.

I thought Homeland was great, but the last two eps were pretty meh from a plotting standpoint.

Justified is probably the best show on TV right now, but it likely only gets to say that until Sunday when Mad Men is back.

(also it's very weird, but I can't say enough good things about Unsupervised and The New Girl is pretty great imo)

Caught up with the new girl the past couple weeks. It starts off pretty awful but ends up being good. I like it. Happy Endings is better though.

the best current comedy (as in not currently airing but the show is still continuing) is obv louie.

archer is hilarious but it's just sealab with spies and h jon benjamin. great show and all but it's not attempting to do anything new or interesting. obv parks kind of fell off this season although it's still quite good.

unsupervised is really funny to me but it gets bad reviews and noone seems to watch it so it might just be the weed

marathoned season 1 of downton abbey last night noone seems to talk about that show for being "the most critically acclaimed english language" show last year ...not on par with the great hbo shows but i'd much rather watch it then random sitcoms..happy endings the only one I can stand

archer is the funniest show by a long shot..I haven't started justified and i watched about 5 eps of BB before life got in the way and i never watched again
