42135 imo. Relative to the rest of his career (TILT!!!). Chris Bauer's turn as Frank is some of the best work in the series. James Ransom as Ziggy as well.

Ziggy drives people nuts- but he was a fantastically plausible and well executed idiot. So often a character like that turns into self-parody, or is written just implausibly stupid. Ziggy's just really, really well done. All the stupid **** he does is consistent with the character and makes sense in a way. (also if you saw Generation Kill, you know Ransom is just awesome)

Yeah, I haven't seen the actor in anything else but I've heard good things. It's just so rare that we get to see anything from Marlo except that cold gangster front (the obvious exception being "My name is my name").

Jaime Hector really does the silent, cold, unfeeling villain well though.

I understand less the people who have Marlo as a favorite character. He doesn't seem to have the depths or the complexities under the surface that most of the generally-considered favorites do. That's a testament to who Marlo is as a criminal, but it also makes him less interesting as a result.

Yeah- no beef with Marlo- but if he's your favorite over some of the incredibly nuanced well constructed characters on the show- you're likely way overvaluing "badass". Which I guess is cool if that's your thing, but also feels like it's missing the point of the show.

i remember some time in the wire OOTV thread (before i had seen seasons 4-5) i said frank was the most tragic figure in the series. others said, ya, season 4 has more

i guess dukie and randy are definitely on that list but having seen the entire series now i still stand by frank

42315 for me, but I probably have s5 closer to the 4th best season than most. Maybe 9.4/10 and 9.2/10 for 4 and 2 respectively, mid-high 8s for 3 and 1, and ~8.0/10 or something for 5.

first viewing i thought 4 crushed all. been rewatching as they are being replayed on tv now. think 2 and 3 were better than 4. 2 may be best even. ziggy was hilarious. mcnulty at the brothel proly funniest scene of the series.

I despised Ziggy in The Wire but my most hated TV character was Forest Whitaker playing Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh in The Shield. God, he played that role so good.

It's not my favorite scene or anything, but I love the hell out of the scene where McNulty, Lester and Kima are monitoring Prop Joe's nephew on the phone from the car with the wire and he's saying like:

"Yo man you got that other thing?"..."Nah man the skinny girl"...super frustrated..."COCAINE N**** YOU FEEL ME?" and they all just crack up laughing in the car at how dumb he is.

Rawls and McNulty scenes are some of the best in the whole show.

McNulty screwing them on the body when he did all the work (start of season 2 I think) to see who had the murder on their books was amazing.

yeah, agree with that Noze. Its good TV, but the length's McNulty and Lester went to set up everything was a stretch. They did a good job of presenting the demise of the newspaper though.

So I am put after the rehearsal dinner for this wedding right now and I heard my buddy ask a bridesmaid when her bf was coming and she said tomm. I hear continued talking and we inquire more about dates and one of the bridesmaids reveals that they all have dates. 3 don't even have bfa. 1 of 7 groomsmen got a date an thats only bc he's married. How pissed should I be? I'm kind of furious and I never fight with friends. Can I just get weed before the wedding without worrying?

Agree on Rawls. Very well written and acted villain character.

Not sure if it's the my favorite season, but the second to last episode of season three - the one which opens with Muzzone and Omar in an alley and near the end has Stringer and Avon on the roof of their condo talking about how they "aint gotta dream no more", a quote which has two totally opposite meanings - is, by far, my favorite episode of the series. To be fair it was able to be that good by virtue of being set up by the episodes running up to it, but it flawlessly brought three seasons of character and plot development to a head in one hour.
