omar's possibly overrated considering anyone who's ever seen the wire would swear he's the greatest character in tv history

i've always found mcnulty boring. for someone who's the main character of one of the most complete shows ever made, he really didn't seem to have any depth. job+****+drink on repeat for 5 seasons. he was alright s2 but the other 4, meh

Yeah, I always thought McNulty was a little overrated too. "Self-destructive alcoholic" has been done so much. And you also have to consider the Ewing Theory corollary here; i.e. the season many consider the best is the one he barely appeared in.

When asking which Wire character is better there are two questions.
Who do you like more?
Who's arc/characterization/acting is strongest?
Obviously characters like Ziggy would never score high points in the 1st one, but could score high points in the 2nd one. Bubbles isn't as extreme as Ziggy, but I know a lot of people who felt every time they focused on him they should have been focusing on the street.

the character of marlo is a good one, but i think of all the major series long players he's probably the one with the weakest acting

I don't see how you can have a show like the Wire and not have scenes based on someone like Bubbles. The whole reason the black market drug trade exists is because of generally non-violent addicts like Bubbles (also regulation obv, but making them legal won't purge the world of all addicts)

Bunk is my "overrated" character (cue bunkkima.gif). He's definitely in my top 10 but closer to the lower half of it for sure. Omar and Stringer I think are definitely my top two and the third alternates constantly (Lester, Avon, Michael, Bubbles, McNulty, probably someone obvious I'm missing).

To be clear btw- Herc's a great character, they nearly all are (I'm looking at you, Brother Mozone). But like as a person, Herc's a piece of **** pretty consistently throughout the show.
