I have a friend who makes a concoction in a double boiler with skunk weed and Everclear that he calls "swamp juice". A shot of it will make you lose roughly two hours of your life.

I never once saw or even heard of a party charging for alcohol at Duke.

I don't know how those kids afforded it. We took a hit on almost any party we threw. We all worked jobs and all played sports. It was far to expensive to do anything but charge. I guess most college kids get help from their parents or have trust funds.

i mean a house of 4 throwing a party was typically:

2-3 kegs (40-50/each)

some sort of jungle juice - 4-5 handles of cheap liquor (12-15/each)

so at worst you were looking at like 250 bucks total split 4 ways + whatever your close friends kicked in

If you're throwing one or two parties a semester and drinking for free at the rest of the parties, it evens out in the end.

Every Saturday night in season and in the spring semester we did Thursday/Saturday. We probably threw around 50+ parties a year. I don't remember once having excess money when the year ended and barely having enough to afford the last month's rent.

usually there was some kind of donation cup by the beer or cups. super rare to see charging at the door or someone walking around shaking ppl down.

Basically the way it worked was one of us would carry the cups in our pocket and then someone would ask for a cup or two, give us the money, and we'd give it to them.

I don't ever remember kicking someone out for using their own cup nor do I remember ever hearing any complaints about it. We usually would get 2 kegs and have a barrel of jungle juice(or a gin bucket).

which is fine if thats the system that college/city uses. here it was usually the same houses throwing parties weekend after weekend, and of course charging 5 bucks to pay for it otherwise they would have been down thousands per semester. i also never heard of any houses making any meaningful profits from parties

this. senior year we probably spent $200-300 on each of 10ish parties we had (40-75 people) and about 8 of us would split it even though only 3 of us lived there. We usually did 1 keg (~$55), 1 gatorade cooler of punch (~$35), a few spare cases of beer (~$30-60), 3-4 handles of liquor and mixers ($50-75), and 1-2 nicer handles of liquor ($30-60) for our close friends.

Charging for a cup was standard at my small college (graduated in '98).

At least for a dorm or floor party. If it was just a guy throwing a party for mostly friends, some of us would kick in but otherwise they bought and there was no charge.

I remember the last week or so of my senior year we got tired of taking hits on parties. So we made the last few(except for the graduation party) BYOB. They were pretty terrible overall parties I would say, but we had a great time amongst our friends.

Were football parties pretty much swept under the rug and not broken up? Seems weird you could continually have 50 parties a year.

Also what was the team policy on drinking during season? I understand that partying after a game is pretty common but you'd think you'd want to recover as quickly as possible.
