I always thought it was ****ing nuts you could meet a girl at a bar, take her home, nail her, and be arrested for statutory rape.

But I have a hard time believing the scenario victor just put out there. Possible I guess.

if she consented then thats tough. You need to be held accountable for your own actions. That's something that I see America not accepting in the future since the young bucks cannot be held accountable anymore

Wow, the craigslist ad should be pretty verifiable. IAMHIV is probably still a scumbag, but it's hard for me to buy that he should be criminally culpable if she's telling people she's 19. That's not the type of situation that law is supposed to cover.

Statutory rape is a strict liability offense.

Well duh, the word 'should' means that I don't think it should be this way. Statutory rape laws weren't designed to protect girls lying about their age to random men they want to bone.

Did anyone ever see "Kids" back in the day. Does the picture remind anyone of Teddy the Surgeon from that movie?

lol wat, you really think the original purpose of a law to statutory rape law was to prevent women from lying about their age to men? So despite it being legal, these women were just lying everywhere about their age to **** older men? Come on man. The law is there to prevent older men from taking advantage of younger women.

Wiki is a bit funny:
Quote:
The original purpose of statutory rape laws was to protect young, unwed females from males who might impregnate them and not take responsibility by providing support for the child.[9] In the past, the solution to such problems was often a "shotgun wedding", a forced marriage called for by the parents of the girl in question. This rationale aims to preserve the marriageability of the girl and to prevent unwanted teenage pregnancy.[8]
But yeah, there's no reason for a person who reasonably believes he's banging a 19 year old to go to prison for five years because she's 16.

Okay, but in this case she is 13, so you are changing the facts. Are you sure you are a lawyer?

but she was 13, and he was 23?

and the "reasonably" part might trip him up in court...

Well, see Ikes, the fact that she (allegedly) wanted to do it is what makes it statutory rape. If she didn't, it's just rape rape. Hope this helps.
